| Does anyone know where I can find a 74 with polymer/plastic stock, chrome bolt, and chrome lined barrel? |
|
A polymer stock and chrome lined bore is easy.
There are no chrome plated bolts or carriers. The ones you see that look like chrome are simply standard carbon steel with a polished finish. You can polish your own bolt and carrier, or any good gunsmith can do it for you. If you demand real chrome, many gun re-finisher companies offer very high quality hard chrome plating for reasonable prices. Stocks are also easy to replace with your choice of colors of polymer stocks and handguards. Standard colors are Black, OD Green, and Soviet Plum. For AK-74's that come with polymer stocks and plated bores, the best are the Arsenal Inc Russian made Saiga rifles that are converted to AK-74 specs here in the US. These are sold as SGL version rifles in .7.62 or 5.45. Both look like AK-74 rifles. Price is on the upper end, but these are the best available. The rifles are converted by Arsenal, Inc and sold through the big gun distributors and K-Var. |

They are marketing them as exactly what you describe, a mid-level 74. I just picked one up (with wood furniture) but haven't fired it yet. It is straight and looks just like the one pictured on their website. Arsenals are very nice (I have a SGL21) but also have a couple of WASR's that work fine for about 1/2 the cost. Depends on what you want. |
