Hey AK guys, need your help on a possible purchase.  I never owned an AK47, but opportunity knocks.  Is a plain jane/base model Arsenal mfg Ak47 any good?  I can get it for $400-500, was purchased new, hardly shot, maybe a couple hundred rounds. Haven't seen it yet, just wondering if it's a good mfgd rifle.  Thanks

$400-$500 for an Arsenal is a steal regardless of which model it is.

Do eet! Just make sure it's actually an arsenal first and it actually works. At that price I'd say either the seller A. Has no idea what they have, B. Is trying to offload something that they jacked up or doesn't work, or C. It's a scam

Make sure it isn't Arsenal USA. There was a company back in the day based out of Texas that made AK's. They had no affiliation with the Bulgarian arsenal. They later changed their name to Armory USA and I can't remember if they were or had a relationship with global trades. This was back around 03-05. For the most part their guns were good.

Arsenal USA, Armory USA, Global Trades, were all the same company. Any gun they made is also worth the asking price. In reality, they were importing AK parts from Arsenal Bulgaria before K-Var/Arsenal Inc even existed. When their contact in Bulgaria was killed in a car accident, Arsenal Bulgaria decided to set up shop in the USA, calling it K-Var/Arsenal Inc.  GARY

Thanks for the go ahead guys.  To put your minds at ease, it's not a scam, just a cousin in a bind, needs the cash.  He's got another one he said, that has rails and optics.  One of them has a folding stock he said.  He's unloading all his stuff for $.50 on the dollar, family deal.  They were purchased new in the last 3-5 yrs if that info helps.

Sometimes a price that seems too good to be true is not a scam. A few years ago, a guy came into our store looking to get a 22 cal AR rifle for his son. After discussing price, he said he had a few guns to trade. He pulled out a couple of Bulgarian milled SA93 guns. When we asked him what he wanted for them, he replied he wanted to leave the store with the 22 for his son without laying out any $. We said no problem. Now to him, he paid $269 each for those milled guns when they were new, & that's what we gave him towards his son's gun. He wasn't a gun nut, & hadn't been following AK values. All he knew was he was getting the same price for an item that he paid 20 years ago. What's that 20 year old computer worth now? He was extremely happy to break even.  GARY
