I want to replace my (stupidly) sold MAC-90. I would LOVE to find another NIB MAC-90 but am not having any luck so far. I was looking at the Romanian WASR AK on Aim Surplus. I do not know what the WASR designation means. Anyone? Also, what is the quality like on this gun? Do you know of a better deal on an AK? Thanks. |
| the wasr is almost exactly like the sar series of romanian aks. i "think" the wasrs are from romania also. there are two types of wasrs: 1-single stack ones, which take only 5 and 10 round mags(booo!!!). 2- the ones that have been milled (the mag well) to accept standard ak mags. they have quality issues with the front sight base sometimes being canted and some of them have trigger slap i've heard. both issues can be fixed by a gunsmith if you want to go that route. i have shot the sar-1 and it seems to be decent-better out there-but decent all the same. i'm not sure if the wasrs have to have u.s. parts in them to be milled for the hi-cap mags. someone should be along shortly to let you know. hope this helps. |
| I think there are some parts that need to be added when a WASR is converted to a hi-cap. Not sure what they are. I have a WASR hi-cap. It's a very nice rifle. I think I paid $320 for it. I'm told that's a little high. But when I added in shipping and transfer costs, it worked out about right. No complaints from me. |

Romy AKs are usually good, with the same QC checks needed for overall straight fit/finish with SAR or WASR. WASR starts low cap, has a hicap double stack mag well widening (of variable quality) and req US parts swapped. Can be very good, well worth 300ish, just the occasional dud. Another MAK90 option is a kit at centerfiresystems.com for $100 and have it built. |

I am in South Carolina. I have perused all of the local shops that I know about and have only ever seen the one MAK-90, and I bought it. That was the one I later sold. It was in a pawn shop. Can you give me the info for these two shops in Kentucky? I wouldn't mind doing a transfer. Thanks for the info! |
