Hello AK guys. I don't get over here very often but have an AK question for you.

1: Yes I did a search (found nothing in the last 3 months) and

2: Don't laugh at me for asking this question.

I was out with a friend shooting an AK and at 50 yards could barely hold the bullets in an approx 10" target black. He was using a .223 AK variant, and I don't have much more info than that at this point. Might have been Romanian...? He added a shorty AR stock with an adaptor, a JoeKen Picatinny rail forend and had an Aimpoint on top.

Any suggestions to increase accuracy a bit (like floating the barrel on an AR or unitizing the gas system/bedding the action with an M1A)? He and I had low expectactions on accuracy but this was... a bit lower than we expected.

Thanks in advance,
jim

Should 2-3moa, even with Russian ammo. Consider effects of unfamiliar gun, crappy Century trigger (if Romy gun), loose sighting system, bad day...

ED to point out results when asked on the other side www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=6&f=5&t=175930

Tell him to lower his caffeine intake.

Take the vibrator out of his ass long enough to pull the trigger.

Don't shoot an ak while mounted or while mounting a horse.

See if these work , if not I can't help ya.

At 50 yards you should be in the 8 ring at the very least off a bench.

Good to know, thanks guys. It's not the first time we have shot it but the first time we tried it out with all the stuff he'd added. We tried it with Wolf as well as Q3131a, and it was printing pretty bad. Definitely not 8 ring accuracy.

I'm going to suggest a new trigger system and we'll go from there.

Thanks again.

More than likly it's the mount for the Aimpoint cousing the problem. Try it again with the iron sights.

with a polytech side folder 200 yards open site's rock that is  the size of a human chest 30 rounds 90% hit ratio freehand !
hell my two eleven year old (twims) son's hit the sam rock free hand with an 60%  to 70% hit ratio and that was there first aks47 experiance !!
my aks47 is as accurate as any of my ar15's or m1a's the aks47 has a better feel in my hands the only bad thing is the safty location..
i have never ever had any malfunction with it wish that was the case with my other so called asault weapons !
shocking what an all around good weapon the ak is.

maybe take some ridalin thats what one of the twins taking to calme him down i think his hit ratio goes up 10% when he takes it

The kicker is, he's a great shot. So I know it's the gun, not a vibrator in his butt (nice) or anything like that . Maybe I'll have him try it without the Aimpoint on it next time. I never thought about that (too busy sighting in my own toys).

Anything that mounts to or replaces the hand gaurds on an AK is not going to be very stable. If your friend wants to mount an Aimpoint or othe type of sight I recomend he add a side rail mount.
I added one to an AMD65 build and it is very solid. The pic below is with a Belarus Weaver type mount and a Tasco  red dot.  The sight is easly removed and returns to zore when reinstalled.
