How many rounds can I expect my 5.45 waffen works AK to last assuming proper maintenance? What parts need to be replaced and at what round count for maintenance? IE recoil spring at 15k etc.

AKs have ran for decades in third world shitholes with zero maintenance.
Realistically, just inspect the rifle when you clean it. If you notice things like the bolt carrier peening the rear trunion, replace the recoil spring. If you have issues with extraction, check the extractor. Etc... There is no set schedule for replacing parts. Most guys never have to replace anything. |

The first thing that I could see wearing out is the barrel (other than recoil spring, etc) Everything else lasts a long, long time. Shoot it until it keyholes, buy a new barrel, have it installed, shoot more. This. You will have many times the cost of a new AK in the price of the ammo to wear one out. |

Shit in Afghanistan I saw a type 1 ak47 with no riffling left being used by one of the Afgan guards . Didn't know what it was till I got back and someone posted a thread about type 1 ak47's or I would have taken a picture . I thought it was just another ak |
| Depends how you shoot it., take care of it, and kind of ammo you're using. Many factors go into barrel life, the accuracy will degrade over time so when it become unacceptable just have the barrel replaced. I wouldnt wait for keyholes but that is your prerogative. |
