| I bought a new century ak pistol awhile ago that I can not get the mags to seat in. Well actually 1 mag that came with it works fine 12 others fail to seat. It looks like the problem is the mag catch is just about 1/16” to long. Is it ok to grind the top part closest to the receiver down a little? All 13 of the mags fit perfect into a WASR that I have and it looks like the WASR has around 1/16” larger gap between the bottom of the receiver and the mag catch then the pistol. Thanks |

Thats wierd. My century has FTF and FTE problems if I dont hold the mag all the way up. Looks like these century rifles are not good at all. Im going ot return mine for a refund at the place I bought it from. Good luck with yous. As far as grinding? Hmmm.......if you do that you can possibly void all your warranty on it. |
| Well I went ahead and took off just a little (maybe 1/32") and I can now get 4 mags to work they are still very very tight and the one that did work is still very tight as well. I think I am just going to polish off what I have done and maybe tomorrow I can get out to the desert to function test the gun. If all is good I will try just a little more. Sorry to hear about yours maybe I should be happy that its so tight probably harder to fix loose. |
| What you did is the right thing. Better to adjust the rifle in this case than every magazine on the planet. Just take very little off. You shouldn't be able to see much of a difference visibly. I had the same problem with a Vector rifle. A little work with a jeweler's file and it was fine. |
| I've seen this happen on a few AKs including a MAK-90 that I had. In all cases they were new and had sharp, unworn magazine catches. I used a dremel and took off the slightest bit from the mag catch - now all AK mags work well. And doing this does not cause wobble as long as you don't take off exorbitant amounts. |
| I had that problem with my AK Pistol and just filed the mag catch on the effected mags. Didn't take much. One AK I got from Century I had to send back cause I couldn't get the mag out once seated, at least not without getting a stick and beating on the mag release. |

A few things I learned while doing this. Its easier to put some cloth material inside the mag well to catch the metal shavings. Start small and check all your mags after each little bit. Some of the older mags that have a little more wear will fit first. So dont over do it. Dremels are pretty cool but the corners are a little tricky wear proper eye protection (lots of little metal pieces flying around) I got 3 more 40's and 3 more 30's like new and 2 fit (would have been 0) but I am done grinding for now. Never made it out to check the gun but had some fun making things fit better. |
