Do standard AK parts work in this? Just getting ready to order the US parts necessary to complete my build. I know the AMD-65 takes a shorter gas tube. The kit I got from centerfire already had the receiver pieces removed. So there is just the rivet pieces left in the front and rear trunnion. Can I just hammer out the rivet pieces with a hammer and a punch? Or do I need to throw it on the drill press and drill them out? They go from the outside in right? Nice looking kit though. Looks brand new. Just need a receiver and I'm off and running. This will give me an excuse to buy some new tools. I'm going to try this one with rivets, so I'll be picking up a nice compressor next week. |

The 63 will take all the standard compliance parts. You may actually succeed in hammering out most of the rivet stubs, but the barrel rivets have to be drilled. It is best to drill all of them. Make sure you put your trunions in a vice when you drill...I broke off a bit in my rear trunion and will have to screw it now or use a different trunion. Live and learn. |
| It depends on what size screws you are going to use. I've done builds with 10/32 screws and I also used 1/4-28 screws. Start small with the drill bits and work your way up until you get to the right size for the tap you are going to use. It's a # 3 for 1/4-28 I don't remember what size for the 10-32 tap. You can't use the 1/4-28 for the rear tunion because the head of the screw is to big and will hit the selector lever. |
