Just starting to notice the AMD 65 AK which unfortunately has got my wheels turning and getting me confused on what I should get next. Is this a pretty reliable AK? I thought I saw a review on it and it wasn't the greatest but can't remember exactly. Anyone have any info on it?  Thanks

I have one, I love it, but I hate the stock's lack of a cheek weld. I had tacticlowned mine out though because rather than learning to shoot it how it was, I went with a cheek piece, ultimak, and red dot.

I think I'm going to get another one and teach myself how to shoot it without a cheek weld. They're really nice weapons and for the price they're going for these days, the value really can't be beat.

Any properly assembled AK will be reliable. It might not be perfect or pretty, but it will work.

From the lowest WASR to the highest dollar Arsenal rifle.

I absolutely love mine. I fired 1000s of rounds and the only malfunction It's had is feeding hollowpoints, it doesn't like them but the AK wasn't designed to fire them anyway. It was my very first AK and what started the "sickness". If you are going to get one, get a TGI build, they are Hungarian built including the original chrome lined barrel. Stay away from the Century builds. I'm not saying they are bad guns but they don't have the orignal barrels. The Century guns have 16" barrels and I don't think they are chrome lined. The original barrels are 12.5'' long. TGI added an extended muzzle brake to make it the legal 16''. They are a blast to shoot!

I love mine. Even thought the "jawbone" weld is something that takes getting used to, it still shoots very well and has less recoil than my other 7.62X39's because of that muzzle brake. I got a TGI built one, and put on a set of Ironwood grips. I might eventually get one of those pieces to add to the stock, but I'm not sure if I want to go away from the original look.

I have the IDENTICAL setup, but with the grey plastic grips. With the cheek rest, UltiMAK and Micro I think it's my new favorite AK!

ETA" the brake is AWESOME at soaking up recoil but it it THE loudest AK brake ever known to man.

Crazy about the 'AMD-65'. Get the one with FEG receiver, original 11.5" barrel and blonde wood pistol grips. It's just a blast to shoot one, and amazingly I was hitting an 8" pie plate at 100 yds. Try to find one with the original rear sling loop on the receiver left rear. I had to improvise one for mine, but some of the AMD-65 'assemblers' go to the trouble of slotting the receiver and installing the original sling loop from the Hungarian parts kit. Nothing wrong with the Nodak receiver, just cool to have the FEG.

I love my (TGI built) KBI AMD 65 and my KBI FEG SA85m. Well worth the money and I like the unusual look of the AMD 65

I just picked my AMD up 2 days ago. I was going to get a Draco until someone said I should check out the AMD and SBR it. Picked up some 20rd steel mags for it but need to change the grip and gas piston to USA made stuff for it to be legal for them to be used in it. I wish I could buy another AMD. I will SBR it later this year.

I don't think it was designed for a cheek weld and is tough to get use too as that is what I'm used too. However decided to try it without a cheek weld and low and behold it is my best rifle for hitting moving targets. really like it.

I love my TGI AMD-65.  It took 3 tries to get a good 1 but I got it and love it.  The AMD-65 is rude, crude and socially unacceptable.  A cheek weld is next to impossible but not really needed.  I shoot it the best of all my AK's.  You will love it but the people next to you at the range will hate it  It wasn't called "the fire breathing dragon" for nothing.

I have always like them, but the cheek weld does suck. I would like to have one with the original barrel so I could SBR it. That would be a slick little rifle.

What is everyone's opinion on the amd65tech riser?  Can you fire the rifle with the stock folded with the riser in place or does it get in the way of the bolt?
