| I am looking for a 7.62x39 AK clone and have narrowed it down to an Arsenal SAM 7R or a VEPR II. A local store near me is willing to sell me a new in the box SAM 7R with milled receiver for $710. It has a suggested retail of $850. Another store has a Vepr II with its extra thick stamped RPK receiver for $610, which is right about suggested retail. I was told by a Robinson Arms source in Salt Lake that the whoesale Vepr price is $450? Except for the one Vepr mentioned none of the FFLs around me have any Veprs and I was told that ordering one direct from Robinson Arms was not possible because they are just not available. Apparently, because of ATF import restrictions the Russian made Veprs may be very difficult to get in the future? Arsenal Inc receivers are made in the USA. I know that the "deal" is not everything. ALL other factors being equal, what is the better rifle? THANKS |

Ballpark trends are $100 less for the VEPR, and a separate set of shipping and ffl fees for special order does not always make a better deal, ymmv. The unique VEPR stock set is problematic to change now, but if you like it, save $100. They both shoot very well, the VEPR front retains more heat but gives more room to hold w/o grabbing metal. I have a SAM7SF because it had a total package to generate Gottahaveitus, which is stronger than bird flu. |
| I vote Vepr. It's a little bit heavier, and it isn't a classic looking stock. I like the Vepr stock better than classic style stocks, plus Veprs are incredibly accurate. The good thing here is no matter which you choose, you'll end up with a nice rifle. Thank God a WASR isn't on your list. |
Although they are both great guns. I would go with the vepr accuracy is top shelf with these guns. And the have a very standoutish look to them, which adds to the cool factor. As far as this stuff about the atf and russian guns thats a rumor. The VEPRs are coming. However customs opens each rifle and checks the insides to make sure they are good to go and customs is slow so its gonna take a while. I heard from a good source that they are in country and just waiting on customs. So dont believe the hype. 610 is a little high for a vepr K. Either talk him down, or wait till december and get a vepr from Robinson or FBMG

| THANKS for the responses to my post. The Vepr on the Robinson Arms web site is claimed to have good accuracy for an AK? The extra thick RPK type receiver is also claimed to have more strength rigidity etc. than a milled receiver? Has anyone owned or fired BOTH an Arsenal SA M7 and a Vepr? |
