How well made are the AIM Surplus WASR 2's? Do they have the side scope rail? How good is the accuracy on these guns? I'm not looking for much out of a gun like this, but if they're crappy, then maybe I'll save up for another Vepr. So what do you guys think? |
I agree.
I've been at the range with quite a few WASR-2's and I've yet to see one that shoots tighter groups than my Bulgarian 74's (kits or Arsenals). I've got a SAR-2 that's in the same neighborhood, but I wouldn't put the WASR's in the same league. The WASR's are decent and reliable, but a far cry from a properly built 74, IMO. |
What kind of accuracy are we talking about? |

I bought mine NIB at the Indy1500 show (not from AIM) but it appears to be exactly the same thing. I was not so lucky and mine does not work out of the box. It will chamber a round and fire that one round, but it fails to eject and has to be manually cycled (short stroking I believe). The gun is very roughly finished, the bolt carrier contacts the upper gas block, the charging action is very rough, (I think due to the bolt carrier groove where the bolt rides being machined so poorly) and the slop in the receiver grooves that the bolt carrier follows don't help any either. Additionally, mine came loaded with a lot of metal grindings spread all through the gun. I emailed the seller about the fail to eject issue, but I guess he does not want to deal with it, since he never responded. At this point I am still trying to get it working properly. Being that I own multiple other 7.62 AK's (1)Romanian G kit gun, (1)Norinco MAK-90, (2) Bulgarians) I found the WASR-2 to be basically a POS as far as AK's are concerned. As MAK said recently.. if you start off with a WASR and you get one that works, you'll think it's great. If you have started off with good AK's, you'll probably not care for the WASR-2 very much. IMHO, if you already own one VEPR you should probably consider getting another good quality gun rather than rolling the dice on a WASR-2. |
I'd love to get another Vepr, but the cost is too much to handle. This is basically a plinking rifle. It also seems that every time I look for a plinking rifle, I get hammered with a 1000 bill for something I wanted to spend $300 for! So if AIM will fix any problems, then maybe I'll just get one from them and pray there are no problems.

I have polished up all the parts related to bolt action in my WASR-2 and still it jams. I've found that the round is getting stuck in the chamber. Towards the front of the chamber, somthing is not machined out correctly. The round won't go forward as far as it should, and it gets jammed in there. I haven't figured out exactly how to get inside of the chamber to try and fix the issue yet with sanding or polishing. Probably going to have to take it to a gunsmith. Once you get yours, please let me know what condition it arrives in. GOOD LUCK TO YOU MY FRIEND!!!!!! I hope you get a better one than I did. |
