The receiver is marked SKS 7.62 X 39 Norinco China Poly U.S.A ATL. Georgia

Says he purchased it new 25 years back and it has never been fired.

4/5 Serial numbers match, the one on the stock is different.

Has a new in the cosmoline cleaning kit in the stock.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Its a Polytech import.

I have one still in the box unfired that all #'s matching that i gave $350 for early this year.

Probably your looking at $325-375 with the higher end on gunbroker. The stock not matching hurts it some.

Mid-$300s is probably ballpark, although honestly I have seen even mismatched Norincos going for north of $400 recently at various LGSs (not sure if they are selling at that price, and obviously a brick and mortar store charges more).  SKSs are definitely getting pricier, I would try selling it for about $350.  I think you should be able to get that no problem.

Anytime, not sure if your friend is selling it, but I would suggest keeping the rifle.  Looks to be in pretty good shape, SKSs are starting to rise in price, and they are damn fun to shoot!

I have seen them at guns shows for $400 but no one was buying.

Well, I bought it from a friend for $350.

Will shooting it hurt the value much?

You got a fair price on a very nice condition Chinese SKS.  As started above, these are moving up in price - slower than during the last panic, but climbing.

To compare to some recent on-line sales: GunStockMarket Chinese SKS Sales

IMO shooting it won't decrease value as it's already been cleaned and not covered in cosmoline so hard to tell if it has been shot or not at this point besides hearsay (and buy the gun, not the story).  If you want to reduce the value, slap on a plastic stock or do some other "Bubba" modifications and make it "tact-i-cool"; that's always a surefire way to reduce the value to a collector.

Nice chart, very handy. Didn't know that existed.

I felt the same way about shooting it or not. Can't really confirm if it's been fired although I've known the seller for many years. He wouldn't start lying to me now.

Should be able to steer clear from the Tapco parts too.

Thanks for your help.
