Can a barrel be threaded WITHOUT a thread alignment tool? I have the die and handle, but no alignment tool. I guess if I was careful, it could be done, but has anyone here done it?
Lookin for some feedback.........

Thanks

IT SURE CAN BE DONE, IF DONE CAREFULLY AND SETTING THE GUN IN A VICE AND GOING SLOW. I HAVE DONE 6 THREADED BBLS AND ALL CAME OUT FINE. I CUT 1/4 TURN AND BACKED OUT TO CLEAN THE SHAVINGS AND PLENTY OF OIL.

yes.

chamfer the muzzle1/8" x 30°.

use a proper die wrench.

keep eyeballing the die wrench handles to make sure they are close to perpendicular to the bbl. as you start the die cutting.

Just like the others said yes it can be done. In the mid 1990's I threaded several rifles without a thread alignment tool as they didn't make them then. But..... out of 4 rifles I have one that the muzzle brake droops because I didn't have a thread alignment tool. It is not off enough that the bullet hits the muzzle brake but when you look at it from the side you can see it runs down hill.
They are $15 which is cheap insurance that the threads will be perfectly straight.

PS-I will never thread another barrel without one.
