| How far should the rivet end project before being expanded? Is approx. 3/32nds enuff? The top two rivets (one on each side) have approx. 3/32" projection on the inside. While this is good in the sense that there won't be any interference with the bbl, I'm concerned that it may be too little and will necessitate removal due to improper fit. How 'bout it, guys? Thanks. Dave ETA- This is on a Yugo UF front trunnion. |
I've used Tapco rivets and I will never use them again. I've done 8 builds and the last one I used Tapco rivets - they are too soft, the heads are too big and the length on the rear trunnion rivets are too long. I recommend highly getting the rivets from www.akbuilder.com (Curtis). The rivets are perfect alloy and length and give the best results. |
I have just discovered this problem with the long rivets from Tapco. Messed up 2 already. How much do you have to cut off and where can i get just the 2 rear rivets since im going to be short 2 for my next build? How is everyone mashing the rear rivets in? I have looked in the tacked stuff but there isn't a great discription on how to do it. |

I freehand my long rivets with a hammer and punch. Make sure to buck the other end of the rivet. You can get pretty good with a little practice. For the final 'rounding', I use a large bolt/screw with a dimple in the end as my die. Works out great. I have a plinker's long jig but I could never get consistent results with it...
