Im wanting to find a stock like the one shown above. If anyone is skilled with wood and is interested in making one from a previous stock or scratch I would be very interested in buying or trading for it. I have plans on taking one made from wood and using it to make one out of plastic. Let me know what you guys think.

I see you are putting this in motion!!!
I also think its a great idea! And you should make it in two colors: Black and Plum!
One more thing, what kind of material would it be when molded into plastic? Dragunov US made kind or hollow AK plastic stock kind? lol

I'm not to bad with wood.... and I like thqt design. I'll think about doing it when I make a wood stock next time.

it might work to try and use a stock from a MAK 90 or a Maadi thumb hole stock, if you look at the length it is definately longer that a regular stock...a stock from a SAR 1 would not work due to the cleaning kit compartment, it would severely weaken the but area, I somewhere have a MAK 90 thumb hole stock I might take a pic and doctor it up with photo shop to see if it would work, it would be a lot of sanding though

I would think you would need to start out with a laminated stock first.  I agree that a plain wood stock would not be strong enough after one took out that much material.

I'm not sure what you're looking for here. Do you just want that shape in wood so you can transfer it to plastic?  Or does it need to be a functioning buttstock that will match up to a trunnion and all?  If I was interested in doing this, could it be out of any wood that I had laying around?  Could I do it with plywood, making a laminate?  Is that some sort of shelf inside the hollowed out area?  Maybe to reinforce it?  Would you want it finished or not?

How much money are we talking about?

ETA:
I did this forearm for a friend.  Fitting it inside the receiver and the front cap was a bear.
ETA2: Found a better picture.  I made the pistol grip for the same friend:

The pistol grip is blocky and thick but I was afraid to get it too thin and have it break.  It replaced some weird plastic grip that was literally falling apart.  What you can't see is that the grip had to be cut to fit around a spring that ran down the back of the mag housing.  It was a lot of Dremel work.

That stock looks cool.  What kind of ak is that?  The rivets on the rear block look like where they are on a Yugo.  Also it looks like that may be a bolt holding it on to the rear block through the end of the stock.
I haven't seen that variation before, you are on to something Duke.

I think I found a guy who is interested he has a site and make Thompson stocks but has made some Ak ones as well going by the pictures on his site ThompsonStocks.com he does some nice work. I believe that is a Yugo Ak of some kind but I dont really know anything about it there is a post in the Ak general discussion on it. I cant say for sure if I can make a synthetic one or not but either way I would have a sexy looking wood one.

Z_Recto has already made that stock you seek.
I know because I have one already.
He did it back in 2003.
He doesn't do them any more, but he might do one for you.

I can't find a picture.
You can contact him over on GUNCO

Thanks I had thought about asking him if he made those.

he made them in the past, if you sweet talk him really nice, he will make one.
He doesn't like making any stocks as they take alot of time compared to making grips.
I looked in my photo album and his too and didn't find any pictures.

It appears that the cutout stock has a web in the forward section.  Either on center or on the LH side.

Anyone else see it?

I did notice the webbed area and thought that it was on the left side.  Now you got me wondering if it is ambidextrious(centered), since I am a lefty.

Sounds like there is one of what you want in the EE

59. Z_recto custom AK stockset. 3 USA made parts (4 pieces total), laminated wood. This set was made for me. he does not make them any more. The buttstock is a laminated triangle shape (like a krinkov but wood) and has side sling mount cut out already for standard buttsock sling loop. Grip is a thin laminated AKm Pattern, handguards are made of 3 pieces of laminated wood (like real ones and are AKM/74 pattern. The upper handguard is laminated and is made from a bent piece of wood just like the real ones $90

I have been told I can do wonders with my own personal wood.

I could make one, Black Walnut or Baltic Birch plywood.

Carving AK stocks is fun.

I have detailed images of one of these rifles - Iraqi 'Tabuk' - otherwise it is a Yugo-pattern, RPK receivered AK with windage adjustable rear sight - even has Yugo-type grip. Weird, huh? Here's a better look:

OODA_Loop,  thanks for the pic, do you have a pic of the other side of that  stock that you may post? What does 'Tabuk' mean?
