Is it really worth an extra $340 to go with the SAM7SF over the SLR107SF?
Is there a better way to spend my money on an AK? |
|
I'll say it since no one else has the moral courage to say it.
Get both. Now that I've said it, my opinion. Both are great rifles. I believe the SAM7SF is the smoothest AK I have ever seen. I'm talking Wilson Combat 1911 smooth. At least mine is. It is solid, a little heavier, and feels like it will last forever. The SLR 107 is not as smooth, but it reeks of quality also. It is sturdy, and while it may not last as long as the SAM, it will last a long time. I had to trade some much loved guns in my collection to get these, but I have no regrets. |

If only getting both was an option......only way I could pull it off is selling a draco. |

| Having owned both, get the 107. The SF safety is awkward, the cleaning rod rattles like crazy, and the butt plate is tiny which gives a greater perceived recoil impulse than it should for a milled AK. I liked mine and owned it for over 7 years before selling it off. I kept the stamped side folders. |

I will say I love the sam7 they are smooth as butter and are amazing when it comes to accuracy. The only draw back is they are heavy.
As far as the 107f after shooting alot of aks I really feel this is the best bang for the buck. The stock trigger is a bit heavy but can be polished and tuned up pretty easily or one can drop in a aftermarket trigger for cheap. I like the left side fold personally and makes it a pretty comfortable carry for long range hikes. I would go this route it overall is a better gun. I love love love my sam7 but my 107s join me more and more for outings... Just my $0.02 though really you can not go wrong with either... |

A quality milled AK, such as the SAM7 series are worth the extra cost. While I do prefer a milled AK, my first being a Legend in '89, I have owned a lot of stamped AK's as well, including all of the models offered by Arsenal. That being said, the 107FR is a good rifle, and one I could easily recommend over most AK rifles that are currently available. |

Thanks for the photo. I went ahead and back order a 107 today. I'll give it a few months and see if it ships and if not I'll order the SAM7. I have a family member that has his FFL so I'm ordering through him to save some coin. |

The 107fr is a great pick. One of the better deals out there. You won't regret it. The trigger needs attention but is usable as is. You will have some extra money for ammo and mags.
Is the SAM7sf worth the extra coin? For me it was but I already had others. I'd go with the 107 first but start saving for the SAM7sf maybe down the road. Doubt they will be around for long. It's worth having if that's what you want and you have the extra money. Yeah the safety confuses some. I'm a Galil junkie so it didn't bother me. Some hate either one. I'm sure in your research you came across that. I've enjoyed both. |
| I don't know how much you are saving but as others have mentioned arsenal has said that whatever is out there is whats there for pretty much the next year or so. I would just cough up the extra money and order from atlantic or another reputable online dealer. Better to pay a bit more now than not be able to get one. |

Okay. Okay. Okay. I broke down and got the sam7sf. Should have it in hand early next week. You won't regret it! I've got nothing against the SLR107. I really like the thumb safety lever and you can fold the stock and leave the accessory rail with optic in place. Enjoy!..........

Not suggesting they aren't a real issue for those that mention them. Someone said the SAM7sf had greater perceived recoil for a milled rifle due to the stock. Not disputing that claim. Maybe he had an overgassed rifle. I did not find this to be true. Just the opposite. Mine is the mildest recoiling AK I have. Two of the same model rifles can be different though. Weight. Yes, it's heavier than a stamped rifle. Not by much though. Right at 7lbs 15oz with no mag on my digital scale. Arsenal lists it at 8.5lbs for some reason. Weight wise it falls between the 107 and an O-pap I believe. Very well balanced so it doesn't feel that heavy "to me". Hate to use the much used cliche' "smooth as butter", but it is. Trigger is outstanding. Prepare your anus for the flurry of "fanboy" accusations if you end up being happy with your purchase and say so or recommend Arsenal to someone. Remember you own a overpriced, crooked sight, painted POS. I probably just jinxed you. |

They have been my go to on ARs so far. |
