I just picked up a copy of the Official Soviet AKM Manual. It states on page number 11 to
" Tap the trigger pin to the left with a drift and remove it." My question is as follows.
Do you have to tap the axis pins out on most AKM receivers? I have 2 Romanian SAR 1's
and the Trigger axis pins have a small amount of play in the receiver and will fall out when
the retaining spring is removed. Is this a quality control issue with the Romanian rifles?

Thanks in advance

mine fall out freely once the retaining spring is removed.

no, not a quality issue. all the ones i own will allow the pins to freely fall out if all the spring pressure/binding forces are removed.

i think the commies disassembled with the shepherd's crook retaining wire spring still in place. in that case, a light blow with a hammer and drift would dislodge the pins.

Thanks for the replies. I thought  the Soviets might manufacture the AKM with closer tolerances
than the Romanians.

it's "clearances"...not tolerances.

but, no. all ak's are pretty much created equal. some countries went to greater pains to more carefully manufacture their parts than othes and some showed more care in assembly...yet, typically, they all seem to work equally well. the clearances that are designed into the kalashnikov are partly responsible for its' magnificent reliability.
