So I am in need of help with regards to some work that I recently had done.
The situation is that I had my Arsenal SLR 101s recently Cerakoted by a local shop that just became a certified applicator, however, after the fact, it becomes aware that the owner of the shop got certified and decided to farm the work out to one of his employees. The resulting action is a very shitty finish that is spotty in areas and thick in others. I refused to pickup the weapon until they fixed it, and after re-coating it, it was better but still very lackluster. I have them go ahead and assemble the AK, and that is when the trouble really started. Apparently they sprayed the entire trigger mechanism including sear engagement, resulting in a complete loss of any form of acceptable trigger. Additionally, the bolt now hangs when charging. Speaking with the owner, I was informed that it would be taken care of. Today I go to pickup the weapon, and find that nothing was done other than packing the trigger, bolt, charging handle with frog lube. So, I refused pickup again. Now I am being told "we will call you when it is ready". So, what can I do? I am 100% on board with legal action, but I have no idea where to start or if I even have a case. As it is, the dang thing has been in there possession since mid September and I have no idea when I will get it back. Additionally, I know that no paperwork exchange was ever performed by the shop indicating work to be done, or custody of the weapon with my signature. I am sure I can pursue them through the ATF on that one, but again, what can be done? I am at the point where it is a "Fix it or Replace it"....but 101s' are not exactly available these days. |

At that point, you may want to see if they'll blast it off (you cannot "touch up" Cerakote, it's a one and done deal. It must be blasted off and recoated), refund you, and give you back your rifle, stripped. I'd then take it to competent cerakoter.
Maybe look into Dead On Arms, I hear they do EXCELLENT Cerakoting and have been doing it for years. I'd take the rifle back "in the white" rather then let them keep monkeying with it. Who knows what else they'll try to "fix" it! |

I have been through the bad gunsmith routine a couple times until I finally learned there is nobody where I live that can be trusted, and I live in a decent size city, it's true. Good help is hard to find in some markets. When there is a problem and you bring it to their attention in a civil manner, they act like you are the problem. I know the drill only too well. The few good gunsmiths where I am are "specialty" outfits that deal with certain clients or certain gun builds.
Recommend you get out of this with the best deal you can, try to recoup your money if possible. Get out and send it to somebody with proven track record who won't jerk you around. Might require some checking around. Then the pain will stop. |

This is what I would do: Pick it up. Take lots of good pictures of what they have done wrong. Then take it to someone competent and get it done right and replace the fcg. Then submit the bill to them. If they do not pay, bring a small claims case, but you will have to pay the filing fee etc. If they refuse to pay the bill let them know that in addition to filing suit you are going to complain about them everywhere you can, the BBB, Rip Off Report, online forums, local gun stores. Tell them you are willing to spend the money on a billboard near their location to annouce how crappy their work is and that they will not make things right when they screw up.... |

If this kind of post continues, I'll either lock this thread or transfer it to GD (call out, bitching threads belong in GD). Haven't decided yet. Instead of any of that happening, why not help OP with good solutions suitable for a tech forum. |
