| The only AK I own is a BAN SAM7, that I bought in 2001. I want to cut the barrel down and get it threaded. My question is are there any good places in northern Virginia to do this, and I am going to hurt the long term value in any significant way? The value question isn't really important, but would hate to destroy its value to some AK collector later on. I really like the milled look and feel, but I might not care if I could trade my rifle for something along the lines of a 107cr. |
| You could probably sell yours and still have enough to buy a 107CR and some ammo or mags. There are quite a few people in banned states looking for them. Or, you could just replace the front sight base (fsb) with an original threaded Bulgarian fsb, with a bayonet lug, and that will give you all the evil features you are looking for. They are still available through K-var or Copes and its not too difficult to replace. No cutting or threading needed. |

Might as well go ahead and replace the gas block if you're going to do all that... No sense in doing a 1/2 ass de ban job when you can go all the way my friend... |

In the long run I may ruin the value of the rifle, but I doubt it will ever be sold anyways. Does anyone know of someplace local to the Northern VA are to get it done?If not what would be the best place to send it? |
