Is it possible to put an SKS barrel on an AK type receiver? Everyone seems to be obsessed with putting the shortest barrel possible on their guns. I want more accuracy for my next AK and a longer sight radius may be the answer. I have a fairly well equipped home machine shop and am a retired machinist and should be able to handle any mods necessary. Pin-in SKS barrels are available and the AK barrels are also pinned in. Are the dimensions in the breech area close to the same? The SKS barrels available do not have the gas port hole drilled (they are new). Does anyone know the dimensions of the breech end of each of these barrels?

I don't know the answer to your SKS question but was wondering if you considered a RPK build. Same AK receiver, they just have the longer barrel and extended sight radius you desire. They even have a bipod to help you sure up that accurate shot.
