Where exactly is the barrel nut welded on, on post ban sar-1s? Any pics? I cant seem to find a nut welded on my ak, its not a problem i would just like to know.

Would be at the end of the barrel and welded to the FSB.  Some SARs don't have them.

the romak 992's and cur-2 had bbl. nuts press fitted over smooth muzzles.

most of the sar-1's had smooth muzzles with no bbl. nut furnished.

there is a pic of an amd-63 on this page that shows a bbl. nut.

Does this mean i could put a bayunet on the gun?(I would not do it because it is illegal) But in september it would be nice to know. Thanks

in addition to need to add a bayonet mount on the gas block of your akm, you must have a muzzle nut or a slant compensator for the bayonet ring to slip over.

But not having the nut means it is much easyer to thread the barrel right?

correct. as long as your muzzle diameter is .550" you can thread for the standard 14mm x 1mm left hand thread. this is the thread for muzzle nuts and slant compensators as well as many aftermarket ak-74 style brakes.

follow all batfe permanent attachment methods after threading, keep your usa parts count in check and you are good to go.

Then my other question is how much it costs to thread my muzzle. And what I will need. I am pretty sure we can do it our selves. My dad was a gun smith so Ive got most all the help I need. My one problem is he hasnt done much work on ak's. So this board is alot of help.  Thanks

(edited for this question) Or better yet where could I buy a threaded front sight base? I was looking at how difficult it was to do it yourself. Also since I  dont have a barrel nut where could I buy a bayunet lug?
