I looked through the tacked threads but couldnt find an answer. Can these flats be bent on a break or do they have to be bent using that jig thing? I want to try to build an AK for shits and giggles. I have almost all the tools I saw in the How To threads, no bending Jig. I think I can make one though.

Another thing, has anyone ever made an AK from scratch? Making the receiver from blank steel? I was able to download blueprints, scale them up and even cut one out from aluminum just to see how it matched up with my Factory AK.

If there is a tacked thread that answers these questions, direction there would be appreciated. Thanks.

There was a guy who was selling a sort of brake for bending receivers but I don't know what happened to him.

One of the first AKs that I built was built from a piece of flat steel that I bought at the local Fleet Farm.  I bent it and cut all the holes.  My brother now owns that one and as far as I know it still runs.
