Hi! My new Saiga 7.62 should arrive Monday or so. Its my first one. When I get a new gun, I usually take it apart, clean it thoroughly, oil it well, and repeat this procedure several times during the first 500-1000 rounds or so to aid in the break-in period.

But with a Saiga, is there a break in period? I assume there is with all new guns.  Will there be the usual factory grease to remove? and can anyone recommend a web page, site, or book on the proper cleaning of a Saiga? I really like to keep all my guns in tip top operating condition and clean. Also, doing this with new weapons helps me get to know the gun inside and out, better and better each time I take it apart and clean it.

Any other suggestions for what to do with a "new" rifle? Anything you guys can recommend to a Saiga newbie like me?    Thanks in advance!

First off it's an AK. You can fill the receiver with mud and it will still run. I do not recommend doing this, but it will run. The manual that come with the gun will show how to field strip and clean your rifle. I just run a bore snake threw the barrel before and after each trip to the range. Keep it lube and you will do just fine.

Do converted Saigas require a break in period or are they good to go.

Just shoot the dam thing. Of coarse you have to test fire after the conversion. Shoot a mag off to make sure it functions correctly. If you added a feed ramp or change the piston, make sure they are still tight. Check your trigger and hammer pins to make sure they are not walking out. If your rifle is not performing 100% there is something wrong. Just come back here and post the problem.
