Okay, guys, I'll admit it--I'm a newbie when it comes to the Bulgarian side-folders. I'm familiar with AK variants, as I've owned a couple of Norinco underfolders and had In Range build me a Bulgarian AK-74 a couple of years ago.

Anyway, I received my new Bulgarian AKS-74 kit a couple of days ago and am curious about a few things. Does the builder just cut a hole in the new receiver for the latch that holds the stock in the closed position? Also, does anyone have photos depicting the latch that locks the stock in the open position? Thanks.

Yes, you have to cut a hole in the receiver for the stock latch.

Okay, one more question:

I won't have any trouble mounting an optic rail on a side-folder rifle, will I?

Also, JoeBud, is that your rifle pictured? If so, who did the build?

The rail shouldnt interfere with the folding stock if thats what you're asking, assuming its in the correct position. On my AKS-74 i just got the slanted cut away part of the rail lines up perfectly a few mm away from the lower part of the folding stock. Dunno for sure, but looks like it was designed that way.

you also have to modify the rear of the receiver as well.........I believe it's a 6 degree angle on the rear.......somewhere on GUNCO there is a drawing with all the mesurements and cuts that have to be made to the receiver in order for the side folder to be installed.

Thanks for the prompt replies, guys.

Don't worry, I'll definitely have a professional build it when I get around to getting it done.

Here's a template for the rear folder : Here

Here's a couple pics of the cuts Here and Here

The optics rail attaches with three rivets, the rear most one on the front one of the rear block. It will not interfere with the stock. (unless there is an optic in place)
