Took my new Magnum Gunsmithing Bulgy 74 build to the range today, along with my Armalite M15A4. Spent a mag just trying to get the PO 3.5x scope close, then started another mag to learn the new trigger feel and re-learn the scope's sight picture. Started racking up several 2 1/2" groups of 5 with Barnaul FMJ, including a few groups of 3 about quarter sized as part of those 5 shot groups. Let it get cold, loaded 10 in the mag, banged 5 out to warm the bbl a bit, and settled into a well rested, breath controlled group with 3 in 1", the 4th 1/2" away, and darnit I threw the 5th 2+" away from any of the others. Ran some ammo thru the AR with a scope set at 6x in light of current events and a reference to how well I was shooting today. Wolf 55gr and Izzy heavily tarnished milsurp still group about 2" each time. Swiss GP90 63gr and Black Hills 55gr kept rewarding me with 1 1/2" groups of 5, and 3-4 of those 5 being in 1". But it takes a $700 gun and 20 cents a shot ammo to do that. With 10 cent a shot Russian ammo, the Bulgy is about 1/2 moa larger than the Armalite. Factor in $150 less in the gun and true Tonka Tuffness and I am very happy with my Bulgy 74. Now if I can just get a SAR3 in the mix when Ober and I start our 5.45 ammo test in Bulgy and SAR2 guns along with our 7.62 ammo wrap up session.. hopefully next week.. |

I put money down that if you put a 3-9x40 scope on your AK-74 from Tantal, you can shrink those groups down to 1" or less with Barnual ammo. A 3.5x power scope is never going to match a 6x scope in an accuracy contest. A 3.5x scope is for prole pimping, not for accuracy contests. Mao demands a rematch with a comparable scope. Don't leave your AK-74 out of the game just yet RS39! |

At least I didn't crank the AR scope up to 20x for the comparo! Although if you just line up the crosshairs with the corners of the diamond target shape, my AR groups were only a hair better at 20x when firing between AK scope sighter groups. At only 100 yds, more than 4x has not made my groups much more accurate. Herding tennis balls out past 200 yds is another story... PS- if you want to call 3 shots a group instead of 5, 2 of my 6 sighted-scope AK targets do have 3 of their 5 in 1 inch |

You shot my SAR1 with the stock trigger (now in as a silly WECSOG ongoing filing project). And I don't follow thru as much on my SAR1 pull, so I rarely feel slap. The Bulgy has a RSA set for long take up to guard against accidental firing, and a light crisp 2nd stage with almost no overtravel at all. |

yeah I shot my 74 that Glen built for me....although I didn't go with the scope mount for mine.....I bought the double hook Gordon technology trigger group, and glen sweeted it up. I would say the trigger pull is better then a stock AR. she fires sweeeeeeet, just had to move the sight a tad to the left and a couple turn up, and she was hitting center mass on a man size target. I couldn't be more happier with Glen's work... he has my MAADI ARM and is refinishing it for me....my next project is having him build a SBR krink, as soon as I replensh my money supply, and get the necessary paperwork in....by that time he'll probably busier then a one legged man, in a ass kicking contest :D |
