I picked up some surplus USGI MG spare barrel cases to use for spare AR-15 Carbine uppers, and I found that the folded AMD-65 snugs right in one, complete with 20-round mag locked in. I also got two more 20-rd mags in one pocket and a 30-rd in the other. Length is 29" so it will take pistols and possibly some SBRs. I have some extras (3) that I'm going to list on the EE later. http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb27/INLAND44/Guns/amdcase1.jpg http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb27/INLAND44/Guns/amdcase2.jpg Out of curiosity, what is the overall barrel length including the brake on the AMD-65? Is it right at 16" or over? |

Depends on whether the maker used the original brake with a 2" barrel extension or the 4.25" Tapco one-piece extension brake as shown on mine above. With the Tapco, the barrel comes out to be about 16.2". With the longer two-piece set-up, its almost 17". Unless registered as a short-barreled rifle, any rifle barrel must be 16" minimum. Any barrel extension must be permanently attached per BATFE rules.
Some AMD-65s are assembled with a non-original barrel that is set up so the original brake can be attached without an extra barrel extension. It still has to be pinned/welded to make the 16", but in this set-up the front sight base is moved several inches from the gas block instead of 1/4" with the FEG barrel. I have not measured one of these so I can't say what the exact barrel length is, but obviously it has to be 16" minimum. |
