[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Centerfire RPK Kit - Close-ups (Page 1 of 2)
Yes, there are. Greenlight should have them soon. jugrunner- GREAT PICS!! You couldn't ask for much better close-ups. Where on the furniture is the SN# located? |
|
Thanks for all the Lewd remarks folks !! ... I guess I lied 'bout the wood being marked ... Only place I can find is left side of lower ... Oh well ... I'll chunk it ... greentimber ... how does this compare to your kit ... Hell we need pics !!!! ... Mbsk01 ... We gonna need close-ups ASAP ... Amazingly, I'm still cleaning cosmoline out of that damn bipod ... They Packed mine twice at least and guess what .... The only spot of rust on the whole kit is on the damn bipod !!! I really do want to see pics and hear details of other folks kits or RPKs ... Other than stare at Krinkfreaks RPK, I'm pretty much dead in the water !! Think I'll go stir the shit pot somewhere ... |

I received my Romy RPK kit from CFS last week. T/guard is fried, same as yours. Call to CFS indicates they are having a problem with this issue. They indicated that a replacement will be sent as soon as they have some in stock.. My kit serial# VF0717 and dated 1970. Kit condition is 95%+ on metal finish. Furniture is dirty but vg overall. Bore is shiney with crisp rifleing. Bore took some effort to clean. Powder fouling came out first, copper residue is almost gone. I do not see any pitting so far. Barrel came equipped with a muzzlenut, not the slantbrake. MW measured 1 using a 30 cal MW/TE combo guage. Not bad considering AK bore is larger than US 30cal standard. Yes bore is chromed. I have ordered some Romy slings, US muzzle nut, US gas piston and cleaning rod from KVar. Already have US fcg, mag bottom plates and followers. Great kit! Imagine, USGI BAR kits for $349 and replacement BAR receivers for $75. These are the good ole days. Don't let this one get by ya all. Order sent to Green Light for a 100% receiver. 1MOR |

Here is a pic of my kit. It is not hand select and the numbers don't match. The selector stop was demolished by the cutting torch and the bipod is a little loose. The barrel looks great and that is the important part. Other than that, I am pleased. Here are the pics. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/kit.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/rear.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/mid.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/front.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/frontview.jpg http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/kracken/frontend.jpg |
We shall see. I ordered mine today. I have one that I bought from Mike at ORF a couple of years ago. The bullet goes in a tad futher. He said the barrel was in fair shape. |
I hate that for ya man ... Lot of hassle ... Bet you get a damn good kit this time tho .... Tell 'em there's about 20 of us waiting on new trigger guards ... lol j/k don't piss 'em off ... Good luck Mbsk01 ......... Good luck on your's Sundance ... |
|
I think i've decided to scrap that tantal kit idea and buy an RPK kit. #1 - What do you guys suggest I order for bipod? I want it to be able to fold underneath. #2 - Should I pay the extra for handpick? #3 - Jug did they send you your cleaning rod? Thanks in advance! |
Get the extendable bipod ... I think they are on the newest rifles ... Not positive ... Both fixed and extendable will fold ... Pay for handpick ... Yes .. Haven't heard from them on cleaning rod or trigger guard replacement ... I bought a cleaning rod from K-People ... $14.99 ... Glad I went ahead and bought one now ... That might be a hard item to find in a few weeks or months ? I'm damn pleased with mine ... Hope you get a good one !! We will need pics of course ...
|
Let me ask this so I completely understand. Fixed vs extendable...They both fold back against the barell? The only difference is a the extenable has the legs that go out further? I dont need that either. |
|
It's ordered. I'll let luck of the draw work on the bipod, but I took the hand pick option for condition. I hope they actually spend some time picking it and not throwing some cobbled-up POS in a bag with cosmo and sending it to me. Fingers crossed, Toes crosssed... I've never ordered from Center fire before. How long does it take to get your stuff? |
|
Hey what are you guys planning on using as Compliant parts? how many do we need with these? (1) receiver ---Given (3) FCG --- Given Which ones ???? (1) PG - but don't want to go this option if it's as nice as jugrunners (1) Piston (Is it std Ak????) (1) Muzzle brake / nut - count? (2) Floorplate / Follower (easy and cheap) |
I'm assuming that it's the same as always ... No more than 10 Imported parts ... Receiver - Red Star FCG - US Piston (std AK) - Z-recto PG or floorplate/ follower = 6/7 US parts ... I'll have to check the list but I think that's all we need .... As incorrect as it may be, I'll have to put a laminate PG on mine ... I believe with 7 US parts I can hang the Romy flashider on the end !!

Yikes! just got off the phone with Centerfire. Only 12 RPK kits remain after filling my order...glad I didn't wait. I also asked if we were beginning to 'scrape the bottom of the barrel on these kits'...he said kind of, but a few decent kits remain. MBSKO1 - might want to consider hanging onto your kit after I received that info. |
Mbsk01 can't keep it ... Bore's gone ... I don't think he got handpicked on the first one ... Did on this one ... You both should get good ones ... Hell, with only 12 left they already know which are the best ... I'd like to see pics of a fixed bipod and get the muzzle height with bipod deployed ... |
|
CFS received my returned kit yesterday, let's hope they resell it as parts only. I haven't gotten an email stating that they shipped my new kit, so I don't know what to expect. Worst case scenario, I'll have em refund my money and I'll go on the hunt for a RPK-74 front end. |

Thank you Sir ... That answers my question ... It's made a little different than the extendable ... Mainly where it attaches to the barrel assembly ... Man the Greenlight looks good from a distance ... Need reviews but I'm not rushing in yet regardless of reviews ... Too early + I'm broke ... When jnewt gives the thumbs up on the Greenlight my kit goes to Oklahoma ... :) |
|
Ok, I've been 'festering' since yesterday at the fact only 13 RPK kits remain and I have '1' requested. Concerned that my $20 handpick fee was a waste I called centerfire today 'venting' my frustrations that I better not get a) MBSK01's sewer pipe or b) the vast numbers of other kits that we've read about across several sites that were junk. The lady told me of the vast majority of these kits that were returned were fine and the people didn't know how to properly clean them? WTF? She also mentioned 'returned' kits go into another pile. yea right! Anyway the kit is on the way...man, this is alot of money for a kit ...almost Krink money and those were new!! I got a full can of gunscrubber sitting next to me right now to clean that sob up. |
|
Well, my suggestion is that the 1st thing you do is to drop a round into the bore to determine where you stand right off the bat. Although, it seems you can get a decent idea of the quality of your kit by outward apperances. Not to mention that CFS is advertising these kits as 'Very Good'. Now, my definition of VG might be a little different than someone elses, but my kit was definitely NOT VG. |
K-var is all sold out of those FH's....damn! I think I noticed one from another vendor :) |
Those Flashiders are real rare ... I might consider a trade for something .... :) |
There were 13 when I ordered mine! LOL! |
