I searched and couldn't find anything.
I'm wanting to get a rifle in 5.45 due to the extremely cheap price for a pretty nice round. I also would like a AK or similar rifle (not an AR Upper for the caliber). After all my searching , it seems the cheapest 74s I've been able to find are in the $650 price range at a minimum. |

I've found ONE Seller of Tantal 74s for $500......
Are AKs like everything else? Gone through the roof in the past few months? I remember AKs being $300 or so a year ago. I can still build a decent AR for around $550, which makes it dissapointing, as I would like an AK this time. |

The barrels are supposedly .223/5.56 and cause some wicked keyholing according to some on the Polish boards. The interarms ones are worth the extra money and wait. Just from the risk aspect of getting a crappy barrel that is particular about ammo, I would certainly consider only Tantals with the original Polish barrel (the Century ones are US NON-chrome lined barrels) |

Cheapest 5.45 would be a WASR-2, you can find them on gunbroker $475 and the EE. The Interarms tantal gives the most bang for the buck. SAR-2's were running $450-550, now they are 550-900 with all the price fishing... Do keep in mind that the 5.45 mags are more expensive than 7.62. The cheap ammo is surplus and corrosive. Russian "the cheapest" is in short supply. If there is an AWB your sources for ammo will be very limited, thus no US manf 5.45. They are great rifles that shoot accurately and reliable. Good luck finding a new addition to the family. rube |
