I have a .308 Saiga and a .223 Saiga that I recently did PG conversions on.  What is the cheapest way to go for magazines with decent fit and function?  I know that the .223 can have a bullet guide installed and foreign mags can then be used after modification.  The .308 doesn't look like there is room for a bullet guide.  Are modified mags worth the effort?  Are there reasonable USA mags?

Do original factory mags work ok when you install the bullet guide for the .223 so the original and the foreign mags both work?

For the .308 Saiga your best bet is to use the US made Surefire mags.  They are a bit pricey but they are almost certainly the best option.
There is someone over on the Saiga-12 forums who is talking about making an adapter to use Fal mags.  You might look into that as well.

You can go the bullet guide route with the .223 and use foreign military mags, but they aren't going to be that cheap compared to the Surefire mags these days.  You will probably have to modify the mags as well.  I use slightly modified Bulgarian polymer mags in mine and they work fine.  I got a couple about a month ago for 30 bucks each.
There are also two different adapters being sold on the Saiga-12 forums right now that will allow you to use AR mags in a .223 Saiga.

Also, I'm normally not the kind of guy to make a big deal about using the proper terminology, but they are called "magazines" or "mags" for short.  They are not "clips".  Clips are totally different.

In 223, priced a few years ago.. I went with a Dinzag feed ramp and poly Galil mags sanded down a bit off the sides of the front to make them narrow enough to fit up there.

I bought some Surefire mags for both my .223 and .308 Saigas.  There is no wobble for either.  The .308 is very tight and requires more effort to get it to click into position.  I just added a 7.62X39 Saiga to my arsenal.  It had two Pro Mag 30 mags.  They wobble a lot.  Is there anything that can be done to reduce the wobble of a Pro Mag?

Wobble does not effect function.

If it bothers you, you can build up the pro mag using JB weld.

My Surefire mags in a .308 don't wobble at all.  The FBMG mags I got are loose as can be and one doesn't even work.  The Surefire ones I went with 25 rounders but they are made to be cut down to smaaler capacity.

308 OPTIONS:

There is a modification for the original Izzy 8rd mags to make them 10rd

You have the Surefire (USA) mags in various round capacitys up to 25

FBMG recently announced a pre-sell of their 20round mags 3/$100 or $35 each when ready in "July"?
I dont recall if they will now be 3 USA parts? - (you'll have to check to see what components they have ended up using)

A guy on another forum has begun making a small batch of 20round metal mags that look pretty nice $45 each I think?
Not sure if he will stick with producing them.  Its an awfully labor intensive process.  Several others were/are talking about designing/making metal mags but I wouldnt hold my breath.

I've heard of several people who've solved that problem by throwing them in the trashcan
Sorry, couldnt resist.  Promag does seem to be working to make their AK mags better so hopefully they can win over the haters

Cheers
