Hello,

I just recently purchased my first gun. It is an Arsenal SAM7R AK47. My eye sight is poor so I purchased a Leupold VX6 2-12x42 scope. My problem is that even with the scope mounted low as possible I cannot maintain a good cheek weld and focus my vision in the scope. Is there a solution for my problem?

Thanks

Well, a bit of foam pipe insulation and some tape works, or a t-shirt or something tied around your stock.

Alternatively, if you want something a little less cheap/jihad-esc, you can always pick up a purpose-made cheekpad. Blackhawk makes a bunch.

You will have to add some sort of cheek riser to use that optic.

The pipe insulation idea is ghetto but I love it...

That's what I did with my triangle folder, when I needed some padding.

Cut a piece of pipe insulation to fit around the arm, and then wrapped some paracord over it to keep it in place.

Best part is, it's plenty of padding, but not so much that I can't fold the stock.

IIRC back when we started issuing M14s as DMRs in A-stan/Iraq there were guys taping foam pillows and junk to the stock to get a cheek pad. I figure pipe insulation is slightly less ghetto than that. Also slightly less likely to let me fall asleep on my stock when I shoot from prone.

~ETA~
Also, does 2-12x seem like a LOT of scope for a 7.62x39mm to anybody else? Admittedly, I don't know anything about OP's vision, but I'd probably never go over 4x on mine. Little round doesn't have enough pep in it's step to go all that far. I consider it about 350y and in.

It works wonderfully on my Beryl sidefolder, makes the jaw weld for the Rakurs comfy.
