Just got one yesterday and set it up for one of my AKs. Yes, the AK mags fit, but the front closure really sucks when the mags are inserted (as in, won't close). The upper MOLLE pad has a pocket in it but is a bit awkward, strapping into the whole assembly in an unconventional manner. I might have to partially re-engineer this thing to work, but for the price, I have no problem with it for now. |
Glock how is the overall construction of the rig? |
|
Buy cheap buy twice. Spend another $20 or so and get an Eagle AK rig form SKD. SKD Eagle AK rigs |
| Well, I went ahead and picked it up. Came quick from CTD. I am over all impressed, from some of the reviews I have seen they comment on lower quality stitching and components. I think I might have gotten one from a different batch. All of the stitching is double or more MOLLE is secure, overall construction is great. The front closure is different but I have no problem securing it. I will post pics when I get it all loaded out. |
| I've got the tactical vest from CTD. It's great- fits my AK mags with a side mount for my 45 and mags. I got the black. Stitching is good and the reviews on it were all very good- along with mine as well. I agree- spend a bit more and get something a bit better with more bells and whistles. That way your not trying to add to it down the road.... 65 bucks delivered and at my door in 3 days from when I ordered. I love CTD- but my wife hates it- kind of like the way I hate the jewelry store, isn't one diamond enough ? |
| I have one of these. For the money you really cannot beat it. It holds AK mags. A little tight compared to AR mags but they fit fine. The construction is very rugged. How many times per year will you really use it anyway? I dont think it will fall apart on you. The hydration bladder pocket in the rear is a great feature. The only part That I really dislike is the snap / velcro attachment on the front. It seems "OK" when you first try it out. After several uses you will realize how friggin aggravating it is to try to snap all the snaps and the velcro drives me nuts. I bought two of those metal clips, the kind used by climbers or they use at gyms to attach different handles on a machine to the cable, at the hardware store. I use the clips to securly close the front together. This holds it together well but it is sort of hard to get them clipped. Not a fast system as far as "on and off". But at the end of the day it carries six mags and water for a low price. |

Might be affordable but it will probably fall apart after one or two serious training classes. I have two rigs, one from SKD, ESSTAC BUSH BOAR split front with H harness and its outstanding. I also just picked up an original SOE Micro rig for about 1/3 of the price and it holds 4 mags instead of 6 but it will do the job and what I discoverd after taking some classes is sometimes a full rig is overkill and will exhaust you. You can also have it configured the way you want it as John offers several options. For those that don't know it John just packed up and moved to TN and is starting to rock and roll the tactical gear out the door of his new factory. It's only gonna get better, good dude, great gear. I recommend the OSOE micro rig aka active shooter rig that John Wilis is now making. It's great and will do the job, great to throw in with your rifle. Mine is set up to accept a tear off IFAK with a VOK medical kit inside of it. It also has a velcro pocket for maps or door stops, boo boo items etc. Contact the guys at Tactical Response or visit the "gear" or "for sale section" of the get off the x forum for more info on the micro rig. Good luck, PS I still love my Bush Boar but I really need the .308 back panels for it. I had to waste sometime getting the ak mags into the ar pouches. The four in front weren't a problem but the two on the sides were a tight fit. I learned you don't need all that and a subload or a micro rig will work even better giving you more speed and mobility. At least it did for me, not to mention the pain in the neck, literally. Stay safe, Billy |
