I bought a Clayco AKS a few years back from a good friend. All the info he gave me about the gun. I now know is false. I know he's wasn't lying, just misinformed. I'm at least the third owner. The gun is in very good+ shape. Three months ago I shot it for the first time down in VA. Another guy on the line pegged it immediately. And offered me $1500.00 for it. Which I declined. I never thought about selling it before. Sorry for the babble. What I'm getting at is. Is that a good price for all involved? Not that I want too sell it. But I do trade alot. And a price frame would help. And any other insight into the Clayco would be great! I'll post pic's when I figure out how. Thanks. |
This is a good point & I'm in the same boat. In my mind I bought an AK not a collectable. Due to my geography the gun is an exiled safequeen in PA. That being said. Trading it off for something NJ friendly is a good option. I have a SLR-101S that could use a buddy against all the HK's in my safe. Over the past year or so. I've never seen one on Guns America. Are they rare? Is there more bragging rights to it? Other than being a perban. Or is it undesirable? Thanks. |

My first AK was a Clayco underfolder, way back in the day. They had a black cloth impregnated synthetic handguard and pistol grip. If someone wants to give you $1500.00, take it and run! You can pick up a damn nice NJ legal Arsenal milled rifle and have a great rifle and money left over for something else. |

Mine has the black furniture and underfolder. I was checking out chicom47.com. I found one inconsistency. Mine is a Min Shan with a bare carrier not blue. The carrier and bolt are # too the gun. I don't think there's anything "special" about the gun. Fact's are just hard to find. I also don't think I could charge someone 1500 for it. I have to look at myself when I shave. When the wife gets home I try too post pics. They're already on the camera. I'm just a moronh |

Oh, looking at yourself while you're shaving is easy. If he offered you $1500 and he's happy with the rifle for that price, everyone made out. He's happy, you're happy, and you can afford a shit load of razor blades to help you shave. You'll need to upload your photos on the camera to an online picture hosting site, like www.photobucket.com, then cut and paste the img code to your post to get the pictures to show up in your thread. |
This is right on. Contact the buyer before he gets something else. |
I, also, have one of the original Clayco AKS underfolders, bought new in 1984. As far as I know, all of the Clayco AKS (underfolders) were marked "MIN SHAN FACTORY," and had the bolt and carrier numbered to the rifle. The bolt and carrier were also left light grey in color, while the rest of the rifle was blued. I'm not sure whether the bolt and carrier were left bare, or were zinc parked. However, if parked, the color is at about the lightest end of the spectrum that you'd expect to get with zinc parkerizing. While nothing special today, this rifle was one of the very first AKs that was imported into the United States. I paid about $420 for it in 1984 dollars, and that was the dealer price at the time. Ammo for these guns was also pretty expensive back then... It's a great rifle. Enjoy yours... Or, turn it into $1500 if so inclined... Forrest |

As stated above. In the time that I've owned it . It's seen the range once. It's not something I get too enjoy at my leisure. I just wanted to see what kind of info & interest I could drum up. As I don't get down to Chincoteague often. I doute will ever see that guy again. Like I said before I never thought about selling it anyway. However if it was some kind of collecter piece. I would consider a trade. Too me it's an AK, what I think of as an AK. The underfolder was the main attraction. If anything I'll watch the EE & see if another member and I could help each other out. In the mean time I'll enjoy it for what it is. Thanks alot guys. |
