Just a short, possibly stupid question. I'm a newbie AK owner. I picked up a MAK-90 NIB recently that was one of the rifles apparently caught in customs when the ban went into effect from what I can read. Stamped receiver; threaded barrel; ugly thumbhole stock which I'll worry about at a later date, and a 5 round magazine included. I've been reading about the 922r compliance rules until my eyes are crossed and I'm still very confused. My main question concerns the magazine which is stamped CHINA on the bottem. If I swap this magazine for a high capacity 30 rounder am I still in compliance or do I need to add an American part somewhere else even though the origional magazine is from China? If I have to add something, what's the easiest thing to do? OK, that's 2 questions.

No worries about 922 compliance until you remove the thumbhole buttstock.  The stock makes it a "sporting" rifle, not an "assault" rifle.  Once you change to a regular stock and pistol grip, then you must be compliant.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do want to eventually get rid of the thumbhole buttstock but that's a whole new can of worms when I go there.
