Does anyone know what type of steel is in the romanian G type trunion? What type of weld rod should I use to weld it to the sheetmetal reciever. I have an ITM Mk99 reciever. Thanks in advance!

I would use 6011. It's not a crucial decision.

Mig is by far the easiest least heat intensive way to go. I tried tig and mig, with mig being prefered and tig to clean up. I wouldnt dare use a stick because of my experience level. Real easy to blow away matterial if the arc is not struck on the rivet first. I would try to use a rod with the least penetration . Drill holes and fillem up. It will be tough not to warp the receiver. Do ALL welding before machining or grinding stuff.
A mig with .023 will save alot of frustration....

My buddy welded his using his mig and after shooting it (a hundred or 2 rounds), the rear weld holding the folding stock in place broke free. NOthing happened but scared the bejesus out of him.

I tried a weld build. My son is a welder. I was displeased with the overall look. All he did was weld and I left the cleanup to me. I did a poor job and the result was ugly. I later redrilled the welds and used u-drive screws.

If you are not a good welder, or someone who can grind and polish something ,it will be a disappointing outcome....

Use your welding skills to build a good rivet jig
Then use it on your rifle build(s)
