| I do screw builds and now always have the drilled out rivet holes welded over. The receiver (with predrilled holes) then becomes the template for drilling the trunnion holes. When drilling the new trunnion holes, I use a cobalt bit which will do the trick for you, if you feel the need to drill. |
| i tried a cobolt drill bit.did not touch it.the welder told me by welding it had hardened the milled receiver trungen even harder.i didn't beleive him but i should have,he does it for a living.so i had him weld up the 1 front trungen hole i tried to drill and left it alone.the receiver was painted with alumahayde 2 and is now drying.i will post the build pictorical when it is dry and complete.i figure this rifle will be ok for what it is used for, shooting once in awhile to have fun.that is why we build these hobbies to have fun.thanks for the complments.exsuse my spelling. |

It was my first build and I did not yet have any equipment. With a weld-up, you don't need to pull the barrel, drill rivets, tap holes, nothing. You just grind off the old stubs and weld everything (even the lower rails) and you're done. I even welded the center support. Since that time, I've accumulated a bunch of tolls and now rivet and spot weld.
