| I am trying to get some objective input. See I have 3 thousand rounds left over from a mini30 I dont want to go through the hassel of unloading it at a show or somethng, seeing as how I have never owned an AK thought I might get one. Now the criteria would be as follows: 7.62x39, underfolder, high cap., and as authentic as possible with one possible exception milled reciever, why? why not? Thanks in advence for your input. |
From what I gather, whether you go stamped or milled; you're receiver will outlast your barrel... And that'll be after a hell of a lot of rounds. ![]() Sly |

the very first ak47's were of riveted together, sheet metal construction. hell, even the lower bolt guide rails were riveted in place (they have been welded in place since 1959). these original ak's were built in the early 1950's. recently, due to some unpleasantries in the sunny country of afghanistan, our soldiers happened to come across some of these old warriors. the guys i talked to assured me that they still functioned just as mikhail timofeyovich kalashnikov intended them to! |

The Polish guns have the best machining and finish that I have seen on any com-bloc countries' weapons. The Poles' rerutation of being stupid was created by the German propoganda machine before and during WWII, in an effort to dehumanize them. It is what we ( the media and militrary machine) "should" be doing to the terrorist scum in Iraq. Oh sorry, did I say that? -vato

Vato, We don't need a propaganda campaign to convince everyone that they are stupid. This is the twenty first century and still they shit in the shower and wipe their ass with their hands. Stupid is as stupid does. Just put them in front of the camera and let them do it for themselves!! ![]() |

Vato, I've seen a few Pollacks in action that were beyond stereotypical "stupid Pollack". Most of them, actually, went above and beyond the jokes. Maybe I always meet the dumb ones, neh? Whether or not they are the dumbest people in Europe (I think not....Poland isnt having a problem with jihadis killing movie makers like Holland is, or muslims overrunning the country, like England), they DO make a damn fine AK. The Poles could probably have given classes to the rest of the ComBloc countries. |

m-dc, What Campybob said was absolutely true (as usual). There is no advantage to a milled receiver other than asthetics. If you want a milled underfolder, be prepared to pay more than $400 for it. To be honest with you, I really don't like the underfolder stock much. I have a Polish PMKMS that I built on a Tapco flat. It came out looking good . . . as folks have said, the Polish parts are among the best. The stock is a bit of an ergonomic nightmare, though. It's just too darn wide for me personally. It's my least favorite rifle to shoot. I even prefer the AMD wirefolder more . . . If I were you I would get a Romanian double-stack conversion from your friendly neighborhood gun store. Then go to Tapco and pick up their $50 side folder. Not authentic, but a much more fun weapon to shoot. If you wnt authenticity, the Atlantic underfolder is the way to go. I don't own one, but I don't see any complaints about them either. YMMV, _Disconnector_ |
This sir, is arfcom. It is not uncommon for things to go astray once the original question is answered. You would be well served with either. If you were going to shoot only from the bench then the extra weight might add some accuracy and stability. If however you actually planned to lug it anywhere, the two pounds can add up to backache quickly. |
