Tough one but best guess is that an sks imported after 1989 can't have a bayo.

I've got a Norinco SKS with a bayonet.  Where can I look to find out the manufacture date to make sure I'm legal?  Thanks.

The ATF has never really cleared this up.As you know, chicom bayo's were banned in 89' or 90', but some were sold with bayo's a little while after. Some dealers just took it off and  stuck in the box with the rifle.
But the rule of thumb seems to be if you find a chicom sks with the bayo attached, its preban and you're legal.

Hope that helps.

Yea right. I'm not a lawyer but as I understand it, if you didn't put it on you may not be charged, BUT, they can confiscate your gun with no reimbursement to you.

I have two pre-1989 Chinese SKS rifles, but due to the fact no one knew at the time what the future would bring, I did not keep the receipts (yea, I know). The bayonets are off,  for as I’ve read, it is up to me to prove when they were purchased (which I can't now).

Frickin laws, hold it beside a Russian or Romanian and most can't tell a difference. Only in the U.S.!
