[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Dented brass

My AKM puts an noticeable dent in the ejected brass.
Any reason not to reload?
Can it be prevented.

Depends on how bad the dent is.

I reload 7.62x39 and will discard any that are severely dented (i.e. gouged).

I'm also interested in hearing denting can be reduced or eliminated.

Try shooting without the dust cover and see if it eliminates your problem.

You could probably reduce the denting by cutting back the corner of the dust cover that the brass hits. Of course, that could impact the other functions of the dust cover.

A long time ago, I heard about a friend of a friend who put a patch of either rubber or leather over the spot on the dust cover where the casings hit. He did it to prevent them from marking up his gun though, and I never heard whether or not it saved any of the casings from damage. Wish I could tell you more.
