I just bought 2 of the newest shipment of slr-106fr rifles that arsenal imported. I ordered 15 circle 10 Bulgarian mags from r&r which are gtg. So, I walk into my local gun store and they have several of the same mags that I strike a deal up on. Before I pay the piper so to speak how exactly can I tell which generation mags these are? As I understand things there are 1,2,&3 generations of these 5.56mm mags. I have read about feeding issues with one generation. Somebody please school me on how I can tell the difference please.

Thanks, Whitearrow I've dropped off the AK world for a little bit, so ..... Last I checked, which was several years back. Two generations of Bulgarian circle 10 mags. 1st gen mags in black and clear (30 rds only) did not have the wrap around ribs. They did have guides for the stripper clips feeds. They also had a different floor plate. Were problematic with the 106F/Rs some of the time. The clear ones had cracking issues along the spines. The black ones were textured differently (rougher). Clears have no metal reinforcement like the black ones, aside from the mag lock lug on the back. Mine worked great in my SAM5/R, but hung up in the 106F/R. 2nd gen mags come in black and clear (30 rds and 20rds) have the wrap around ribs to prevent cracking at stress points (these benefit the clears). Guides for the stripper clips were removed. Worked in 106F/Rs. Blacks are metal reinforced, has a little looser fit in the mag wells than the clears. Clears were tighter fitting. I like no wobble, but that's me. 
Unaware of a 3rd gen, but enlighten me please! Been shooting this more than my AKs.

Doe I might have been misinformed per my relentless search for these mags via google. I found out that 1 gen had a stripper clip guide that some people had issues with. Is that true? Maybe someone with way more knowledge than me can elaborate more.

Yes, some gen 1s and/or the way the rounds were leaving the mag feedlips and offside hitting the chamber throat area contributed to some problems with the early 106F/Rs (5.56mm) series. Arsenal has enlarged the ramp area to alleviate this problem with BD s/n onwards.
Not all of my gen 1s did this. Some worked great, some not so great. They all worked great in my SAM-5R. I was able to get Arsenal/K-VAR to do a one for one swap to the gen 2s years back without issue. Gen 2s have worked without issue. My 106F/R eats everything and runs like a top. I still kept some gen 1s and they still work fine. |

Gen 2 on the left. Gen 1 (with ammo) on right. (In all pics) Left profile........Gen 1 texture is rough. Gen 2 texture is smoother. Stripper guides on gen 1. 
Right profile.......Gen 1 stripper guides. Different textures are evident. 
Front profile.......Gen 2 ribs wrap around and has a central spine. On the gen 1 clears, the notches were where cracking issues were located.
