Hello folks . . . Now I know this might have been asked before about a ba-zillion times but . . . . . . how important are "dimples" ? ? You know . . . "dimples" on a stamped AK receiver, at the mag well. Saw a bunch of the "new" WASR AKs at the toy show over the weekend and they looked pretty good ! ! Spoon brake, bayo lug, bayo include, with mag pouch and a couple of mags too. Would like to have one, just to have ! ! But they don't have "dimples". So . . . . . is "no dimples" a non-issue ? ? ? ? Thanks ! ! |
| The dimples support the mag and prevent it from wobbling. WASR's started life as a single stack rifle. Because a single stack mag is thinner, the dimples on a WASR would have to be almost twice as deep. Instead of using dimples there is a piece of metal welded to the inside of the receiver to act as a dimple. Therefore WASR's just don't have dimples. For most it is a non-issue. Then you have those who feel a WASR is not a true AKM because it doesn't have dimples. |
| JoeBud summed it up pretty good but there have been several AKs captured in Iraq without dimples. Most of the ones I've seen pics of were Chinese stamped receiver models made for export.Anymore, the dimples are only an issue to the Guy's going for a particular look, like using a Maadi ARM for a Soviet AKM clone. |
