....just received my Norinco SKS. Unfired & covered in cosmo. I want to break down to clean it up.

I am trying to disassemble this and it is a MAJOR pain in the arse. I can't drift the firing pin retaining pin to remove the firing pin. I beat the hell out of it and it will not budge whatsoever.

The gas tube assembly as well: the latch goes up but I cannot get the assembly to "clear" from the rifle.

The trigger assembly took a hell of a lot of force to get off.

After it beat me up for about an hour I put it down....

Are these things usually this "tight"??

Yes . Drown your firin pin/bolt assy in PB Blaster along with the trigger group. Shit works good.

To get the firing pin retainer pin out you need to work off a good solid surface like a concrete floor, place the bolt retainer pin side down on a steel socket that the pin can fall into.  Use a steel punch that is as close to the size of the pin as possible, then get yourself a 2 lb. hammer and give it a good whack be careful not hit your hand or break the ear off the pin when putting it back in.

For removing the gas tube make sure when you lift the lever up that the beveled edge of the gas tube lock is vertical when you look down on it and it clearing the back of the gas tube,if not the tube will not come out,on some especially the Chinese the gas tubes are really tight.  Once your sure the lever is in the correct position you can use two large screw drives one on each side wrapped in tape to protect the wood to gently lift up the gas tube.

The trigger group shouldn't be to hard to remove being new its probably just a very tight fit.   Make sure you put the safety on before you remove the trigger group, all you should need to do is press on the small pin behind the back of the trigger guard you can use a Phillips screw drive for that and it should pop right out.
