Shot my Draco two days ago, after installing the single point sling. This gun rocks, and I don't understand why folks say this gun is a range toy. Fired a Police Tactical pistol course today with it. 20 targets, most of them were steel, with one being a 6 plate dueling tree. The fastest I have seen a shooter do this course with a regular handgun is 62 seconds, I did it with the Draco in 40 seconds without really trying. The ranges of the steel targets were 30 yards to 10 yards away and the course consists of running from cover to cover engaging different targets that must be hit before you can progress through the course. I also shot the Draco out to 140 yards and placed 7 of 10 rounds into a 12"by 12" target, with the other three just outside the target. The sights were dead on from 0-140yards. The results of this range session show me that this is a very useful firearm that has tactical applications as it is; 1. Way more accurate than a pistol, from pistol range to at least 150 yards. 2. Just as quick on target as a pistol. 3. Way more powerful than a pistol. 4. Greater standard magazine capacity. So i would consider the 350 bones I paid for it, to be well spent!http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd414/coondawg47/draco.jpg

Cool. Just got my first Draco a few days ago. $369 price tag and talked them into $339 out the door with two mags. (for those of you northern Hoosiers, Midwest is pricing them at $329 starting Friday). Can't wait to shoot it!  Even though I haven't tested it, I think it's a pretty cool little gun considering the price. I still need a sling. I'll be making a trip back to the gun store Friday for some sale goodies, including a $79 Mosin Nagant.

Very nice!  Since you're new here, I'd like to be the first to say that we're going to need some pics!

I find this very hard to believe.   If true you must eat nothing but carrots.

The one Draco I handled felt as heavy as a full-sized AK.  That being said, I still want one.

My Pistol is very accurate!  Just needs a Butt stock after a $200 Stamp.  No problems at all!  Matter of fact all my AKs have had no issues.  My AK over my AR if the SHTF!!!!!!!

Lets see, SWAT sniper, numerous weapons courses, 25 years of military shooting experience, been shooting AKs since about 1993, Firearms Instructor for 20 plus years, Tactical Firearms Instructor etc.  Everyone's shooting abilities are different,  mine are on the high side, don't know about yours.  Believing or not is your problem.

IMO, the Draco has a few things going for it.

The short barrel is probably more rigid than longer AK's, and it may actually be more accurate/consistent. If you've ever seen slow-mo footage of an AK being fired on Full Auto, you know what I mean. AKM's "wobble" like they're made of rubber practically.

It has a longer sight radius than most other handguns.

The 7.62x39 loses very little velocity in a short barrel as compared to .223/5.56,  and it's also shooting very flat as compared to most any other handgun round.

If you're using a single-point sling under tension, you've got much more stability than a regular handgun.

The weight of the Draco over normal handguns makes it very stable as well.

Pistol-style "rifles" are inferior to stocked rifle-rifles, but they can easily be superior to traditional handguns if you work to their strengths.

All are good points, mine will never replace my full size AKs, but it will be carried in place of a handgun in certain situations.

I was shooting a coke bottle at 120 easy the other day, I was very impressed. Whoever sights these things in at the factory knows what they are doing.

Ive had the same great experience but using a 2 point sling, I use it like this but of course with the sling opened up all the way

seems accurate enough for me, couldnt get a normal handgun to shoot that far accurately

plus no sore shoulder, and suffering from bike accidents its no stress on mine
of course I had it shooting to the left a hair, and was adjusting the front the wrong way I see, so now I know why it kept shooting left after adjusting

but it had some decent groups for a pistol for me at least. lets face it, its not for bullseye shooting

Please tell me about the rear sling atachment/swivel you installed. Sorry if you already cover that, but I have 2 Dracos. I am going to SBR one and would like to set the other one up like yours with that sling.

Its from midway, I think under $8
Uses a nut on the inside. Which is nice as you can leave it loose to swivel, I keep it super tight so it stays in one spot.
Basically drill a hole, thats it. My receiver/trunnion was pretty soft, I was expecting hard metal so it went in fast. I should of went with the yugo type rear sling mount, the type that gets a slot cut into the receiver and wings pressed in. Just to look more authentic. The one im using is a little fat looking, but I guess maybe its stronger. But for such a light pistol I dont think strength is that big of a deal

Did you consider installing the sling swivel through center/back of the trunnion instead of the side?

I am wondering because I want to mount one of these to my gun(don't you just love copycats), and I was thinking which would be a better place, the side like you did or perhaps through the back......what are your thoughts?

like this?

I had never tapped something this thick before; drilling it was not a problem but the cup won't screw down flush with the trunion. I think that if I remove the FCG it will allow me to run the tap all the way through which may help. Haven't done it as it's very secure like it is, but I will the next time I completely strip it.

Ya, That's what I am talking about hrough the back! I can't decide which way to go yet?

Is your Draco an older one or is that a newer Draco "C"?

What kind of rail attachment are you using for the red dot on your Draco?

If your only running single point, maybe the back trunnion would be better. Im only using 2 point.
I dont like the look and possibly the sling rubbing on my hand, or somehow getting caught up in my hand.
Since rifles use a side mount sling I chose that location. When strapped on front or on back, it lays flat. Plus with sling shrunk down to smallest it hangs nicely. Not saying the rear mount is bad, never tried one. Im just saying how mine is. I had also heard the rear could be hardened and tough to drill. But since I had to drill through mine from the side it was very soft. Also if I take the sling off, it looks nicer with nothing flopping off the back. Even those quick detach had a big nub that pops out.
I have done a rifle this way too. Underfolders use a sling mount in the same spot, m70's use it in that spot too.

Mine is an older "non-C" and it wasn't hard to drill, I did it with a hand drill with the Draco in a vice. I used a punch to start it, but it's still slightly off center.
Keep in mind that a 9/16" hole is HUGE in this scenario; if you think you might SBR your Draco in the future you'll want to think long and hard about drilling a hole that big in it!

The rail is a cut down Ultimak, there are threads here on how to do it.

awesome pics!  I just picked up my Draco on Friday, paid $400 for it (was an impulse buy, didn't do all my price shopping first) but even so, still a good price for what you get.  I have been looking for a sling adapter for single point attachment on the back trunnion.  Is that a "HEAVY DUTY PUSH BUTTON SWIVELS W/SS BASES" from Grovtec US, Inc?  if so what tap (size and tpi) did you need to thread it?  Thanks again!

Yes, it is. Got mine from Brownells. It takes a 9/16" tap and the instructions tell you the exact specs. I ended up getting my tap at an auto parts store <$10.

What sling is that?  It appears to be some standard web sling, but can you provide some details?

Thanks.

typical olive drab ak sling, could of been bought from apex. Cant remember what country it was from. Probably $9. Wait it was from copes and it was a used one, came looking brand new. Still think around $9 I was expecting a old one but was surprised how new it was.

Here is 50 yards, 12 inch target fast firing standing up. Using sling. 20 shots

I may have made a mistake on 1-2 hits, and also 2 more hits right under target not shown
