| Sounds like a cool job to me. I would imagine that just like any job it would get boring and dull quick enough. How many barrels can you scope and flux before it gets drool? Of course the occasional test fire of a exotic weapon would make up for the other stuff. |

Buddy of mine took a job at the FN plant in Columbia SC......test fired weapons all day long....M249s, M240s, M4s, M9s..............he finally got bored with it and quit. Cost of living is dirt cheap in Fayetteville NC, but the pay offered is rather low........... |

I lived in Fayetteville for many years before moving to GA a couple of winters back. The pay on that job is very decent for the area. As far as military pay that is probably about what an E6 would make(after allowances are added in), and in Fayetteville your cost of living is based on what the military brings home, regardless of whether or not you are in the military. The economy of that town consists of Ft. Bragg, Pope, and a handful of palnts (that are mostly shut down). I made lots of money then, working in Raleigh and commuting in a company car with company gas, and really enjoyed living there as compared to the Raleigh/Durham area. ETA: you also have to take into account that this job probably provides a good benefits package and promotion potential. In my current field my choices are make real good money working at a dealership and have the crappiest benefits you can imagine or work for a large Corp or govenment job and have good benefits but make much less money. For a family man in Fayetteville 35K and good benefits, could be a very good position, because like you said cost of living is low there. I reneted a 4BR 2300sqft home with a half acre yard, in town in a great neighborhood for $800 a month. |

my friend moved to fayet-nam earlier this year, his job is a "fishing and wildlife instructor". he fishes all day, and when he has kids come to the local park, he teaches them to fish...then he goes back to fishing. he goes home and fishes..... its the perfect job for him. sure, not tons of money, but man. tons of job satisfaction. and the reason its dirt cheap there is because nothing is there, and its terribely boring. |
| Wow, our janitors are not even WG-8. You think that something like would at least rate a WG-10. I think what they need to do is rewrite the job description and so it reads "integrated weapons system mechanic" so that it would be eligible for reclassification to WG-11. I have seen the a simple change of duty title cause a job series to be reclassified. |

You are comparing apples to oranges. Find a private industry job that gives you : guaranteed (pretty much) raises for up to 10 years . Very Low cost Health care. Guaranteed Pension after 20 yrs. more vacation AND sick leave to start than most private companies. Does it even have a Degree requirement? Not bad for an entry level job, |
Well, do you live in the Barracks or are you married? Huge difference... I was supposed to PCS to Bragg (again), and looked into Housing costs and everything. A decent single family home (not a trailer on Bragg BLVD or the Merc) started about $600...Anything decent was allot higher.. Per month- E4 pay - $1877 (with 4 yrs) BAS- 220 (food money) Jump pay 150 (it is Ft.Bragg) BAH 809 (housing) $3056 a month before taxes vs. $2400 a month for 4 weeks of 40 hours a week @ $15 an hour.... Of course, as a CIV, you dont have have stuff like 16 hour days, 24 hour duty, year long deployments, having to show up at 0300 to jump at like 2300, etc... |
