I bought a new Arsenal SAM-7S in late 2003 and it has always had a problem with the hammer.

When the rifle is disassembled and I pull the trigger the hammer drops, but it doesn’t stop like a normal AK, it continues forward until it strikes the rear portion of the ejector.

The FCG of this rifle looks normal to me, just like the FCG’s on my other AK’s, except they all work correctly and this one doesn’t.

What is this problem called?

What causes this problem?

How do I fix it?

You post you bought this rifle new and in 2003. When you found this item did you think I should call Arsenal and get their help?

Are your pulling the trigger with bolt carrier removed ? I would not reccomend you continue to do this. The SAM has a milled receiver and does not have the center support that a stamped receiver has. I do not think there is anything wrong with your rifle.

No, at the time this rifle was my first and only AK and I thought that this is just how the FCG works.

The first time I disassembled it I pulled the trigger and the hammer hit the ejector. I thought “well that sucks”, and I haven’t done it since.

I have not continued to pull the trigger while the rifle is disassembled. That would be just dumb.

Now I have other AK’s, including other milled AK’s, and I have long since learned this problem isn’t normal so I put it on my list of things to fix, which is a long list.

It has been a couple of years since I had a SAM 7. I unfortunately no longer have any milled rifles. I do not recall if the SAM 7 I had ever t did what you are describing. However, I am still not certain you have a problem. Can you post a pic ? Perhaps your hammer is out of spec or the pin axis in the hammer or in the receiver is off. You could try replacing the FCG and see what happens.
