I finished my Maadi (first build) a few months ago and ran 3-4 mags through it to test fire. The third round out was a FTE, but the rest ran smoothly. Last night I went to shoot it for a second time, and about every 10th round or so would fail to extract, and would consequently double feed. Three or four types of ammo were tried, including hollow points and FMJ. Brass and steel case didn't seem to make any difference at all, and neither did mag type. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I built on a virgin barrel and drilled the gas port myself; I'm pretty sure I got it right. The action is smooth and there are no obvious errors. Any ideas? |

Did you use all new parts? or parts-kits to put this togather?
I'd start by replacing the extractor and extractor spring with new. cheap fix. after that mabe the main spring. if still problems after that I'd tend to think you didn't get everything quite right. Is this your first rifle you've drilled your own gas port? where did you get the port info you used? |

You may also want to disassemble and clean the bolt and especially the recess the extractor sits in and scrub the bejeesus out of the chamber. Did that in a parts cleaner before I put the thing together.... I think I'm going to get some spent shell casings and cyle then through... maybe I'll be able to see something if I do with the top cover off. Is there any way this thing is under gassed? What are the symptoms? I can't recall what drill size I used for the gas port, but it was what was reccomended to me by someone on here or another forum. |
| You may want to make sure the bolt isn't dragging or binding near the center rivet aft of the magwell. I've seen quite a few of the US made receivers that the rivets were overdriven there and would actually be bowed in there. They can be straightened easily enough with 1 crescent wrench on each side of the receiver and pulled slightly away from each other at the bowed section. If that isn't the problem then I'd check your gasport hole size. |
