Probably not surprisingly, this is a clunky late '90s First Son Enterprises FCG, installed on a NHM91 (second FSE FCG to crap out on me in 2 weeks).
As I was firing some of this blasted old UMC FMJ I started getting some light hammer strikes (no bang) and failures of the trigger to reset. Then the trigger got stiff and very hard to pull before it finally seized completely in a cocked hammer position. At this point trigger won't budge. I pulled off the top cover, bolt carrier etc. to see what was amiss. The trigger only moves back and forth about 1/16" –– not enough to release the hammer. The legs of the hammer spring appear to be in place. The safety is off and is not blocking the disconnector. However, it looks and behaves like the disconnector spring is either missing, binding or out of whack somehow. My question is, with the hammer cocked, what is the best way to remove the FCG without the whole thing flying apart in my face –– or will it? Thanks! |

I have never removed a fcg with the hammer cocked, but if I had to try I'd put the "legs" of the spring on the hammer and secure them with a twist tie. This may be easier said than done. A pair of needle nosed pliers may be required.
Once that was done, if the trigger was still locked in position I'd get the trigger pin out, which might give you enough play to disengage the trigger/disconnector from the hammer. |

I've had similar experience happen to my AR before. It fired a few off shots and then I couldn't pull the trigger anymore. A quick visual inspection revealed nothing amiss, but when I took it apart there was a spent primer cap came out of a case and had fallen down into the trigger mechanism. Some people suggested that I bang or shake it a bit if this ever happens again. Apparently it is a rare occurrence, but others have seen it before too. Sorry, don't know about taking apart AK stuff though. |

OK, I slowly removed the trigger pin and it all pretty much stayed together until I slid it off the hammer and carefully pulled it all apart under control –– no eyes lost or digits crushed.
Replaced the FSE trigger & disconnector with the original Chinese parts –– keeping the FSE US hammer so we stay good and 922r compliant. Disconnector spring looks a little worse for the wear but seems serviceable. Hammer pin seems to have some undue wear, but serviceable. Will replace asap with new parts when the Red Star FCG comes in. Newly amalgamated FCG seems to function as normal, but will take it out to the range for test fire. So far, it looks like the rough FSE trigger & disconnector were the culprits to it seizing up. |

Mixing FCG parts can cause trouble. The disconnector may not catch the hammer.
I suggest that you load only one cartridge in the magazine AT LEAST 10 times and check that the hammer has not followed the carrier forward after each shot before loading more than one cartridge. Doubles or triples can be embarassing to say the least. Please do not ask how I know this. |

Lucky I was only using a 5 rd. mag or I might have dumped all 30 down range at once!! Yes, I had a couple where I thought the trigger / disconnector were jammed again, only to find a live round in the chamber with a light indentation in the primer. So it probably was the hammer following the carrier forward. Then I started having some doubles before I called it a day and headed back to the old drawing board. I'm going to order all new FCG innards, springs, pins, etc. in addition to the Red Star adjustable trigger and start over from scratch. Thanks for the info! |
