I got my first AK today at the gun show. It's a CAI WASR-10/64. It has the sort of Dragonov wood stock on it. I know alot of you say that they can either be junk or good, but the guy I bought it from (have dealt with before) hand picks all of his rifles. The FSB is not canted at all. I can't believe how easy it is to field strip, I've already done a thorough cleaning on it. My questions are: is there a special type of grease or places that should/shouldn't be oiled or greased that I should know of? Also, the sling that came with it looks like the slings usually posted, but it is a greyish leather. The clip side won't fit through the...damn I can't remember what its called, but the other end. Do I just have to force it, or will I have to take the dremel to it? Thanks. P.S. I'll try to post pics as soon as possible. |

Yes, welcome to the dark side. Opinions vary on lubrication of AK's. Some people don't use any. Not that it's necessarily the "right" way, but, rather than oil, I like to use a very very thin layer of waterproof grease on the metal-to-metal parts. On the sling issue, you may have to post a pic, but I've sometimes had to twist and push at the same time to get the metalic end of the sling through the loop. |

Mak, I got mine with two 30rnd mags (both in good shape), cleaning kit, sling, mag pouch, optics mount already installed, insulated bayonet, and a frog for it for $349. Probably tomorrow I will get to try it out at my rifle club. I already have a bunch of water jugs filled up and ready to explode. |
| NITROMAX, the bayonet sheath has this rubber thingie slid onto it so that you won't get shocked if you cut an electric fence with the fence cutter. The bayonet handle is plastic, so you don't have to worry about that. All of this was told to me by the guy I bought it form, so I don't know if it's 100% true. |
| Alright, I finally got to shoot it today. I can't believe how fast you go through ammo! I shot 120 rounds through it, but I did have some problems. Every few shots I would have it jam because it didn't completely let go of the spent round before trying to push a new one in. This caused some of the case mouths to get pretty messed up-I'm happy I only shot 20 reloadable rounds. Does it just need to be broken in or what? Thanks. |
There are reasons we say those things and nobody listens until it is too late. Did this come from a gunshop? Sounds like it from your comment above. I would ask for a refund and buy a decent rifle. Could be a mag problem, did you try more than one mag? Could be some of the other common problems with WASRs but I would just get your money back and buy an AK that works. |

I bought it from a guy that is at every single gunshow selling mostly Century rifles. I've tried calling him today, but his line has been busy for the past 3 hours. I know he didn't give me a phony number becasue I looked it up on Powerfinder. I trid both mags that came with it, and still had the problems. The jams did seem to get a little less frequent the more I shot, so it might just need to be broken in. I'd love to get a better AK, but I don't have any more money to spend. How much do you think I could get for a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington that is in about 90% condition? |
