I managed to find a nice condition PLO underfolding kit (was advertised as a Polish underfolder) and built it on an OOW receiver with the help of local builder (thanks again Rick). Bore looks ok (unlike alot of reviews of PLO kits) and the rest of the kit shows mostly just finish wear. Anyways, decided to clean up the furniture and use it since it gave the rifle some character. I'm going to try to match the blueing on the receiver to the dust cover to keep the look it has going.

anyways, pic:

I've seen some good results with fine (0000) steel wool rubs to restore that used look to a new OOW rec finish.

You have a good looking rifle.

Was this kit come from a milled receiver?

If so, how did you get it to mate with a stamped receiver?

I ask, because I am trying to figure out a good way to build a Bulgarian AK74M1A1 in 5.56 NATO, but this kit is for a milled receiver.

I think most of the PLO kits were milled but have seen a few that were stamped also. Milled receivers are scarce and expensive. Firing Line has them but don't know about 5.56.You just have to turn the threads down on a milled kit to get it to fit a stamped trunnion. A 74 in 5.45 would be much more economical.

The Russion round would be more economical.  Problem I see is with ammo availability.  If someone makes a pistol with the Russion 22 round, AFT will most probably reclassify this type of ammo as AP pistol and thus, ban further importation.  Russion 22 is not made in US.
