Hello all. I am going to attempt a Romanian G for my first build. I have the kit and so far have drilled out the rivets on the rear trunnion and ground the heads off the  front rivets. I work in a machine shop,so I have access to a wide variety of tools. Next I plan to press out the barrel pin and then the barrel,so I can drill out the front rivets. Is it best to move the rear sight base first to avoid damage? I plan to build on a Tapco flat using rivets. I tried to strip the finish off the stock and Kutzit and mineral spirits had no effect. What is the best stripper? Denatured alcohol? Any advice as to best rivets or compliance parts will be welcomed. I want to restore this to original (but semi-auto!)  condition. What will match the original metal finish the best? Sorry if this is all old hat,but its all new to me.

removing the front sight base is NOT necessary to remove the barrel. when you go to install the barrel it will also help line things back up. as far as stripping wood??? that's something i need to learn also.  as far as buying rivets..only rule i know...is to not buy the stainless rivets, because they will not hold the finish you apply.

compliance parts are a matter of what you can do without..if you want the import pistol grip, you'll have to install maybe a us gas piston...etc.  it's not complicated. just find a list of what can be replaced as compliance parts....then decide what you want to keep original.
