Which is better?  Or which would you prefer and why?  I like both, but the budget only allows for one purchase.

For shootability a fixed stock is the way to go. For cool factor or stowing away go for the underfolder. I prefer to be cool.

+1.  I prefer to be cool, too.  One of these days I'll get a fixed stock, but I got a UF for my first AK strictly because of the cool factor.

Underfolder now. Fixed later.

Sidefolder first. Coolest of the cool.

Fixed stock two days later.

Underfolder next.

Then I'll be done?

I have both but prefer the fixed stock for shooting. UF is just not my thing. But it does look cool.

Get the underfolder.  It's still managable to shoot with this stock and you will have a higher increase in value if the Dems ban our rifles again in 08.  Get the fixed stock second.

Fixed stock is my favorite.  I don't care much for the underfolders, although I am a big fan of the Russian/Bulgarian side folders.

Go underfolder or go home!

Fixed stock??? What's that??? I didn't know they made a fixed stock AK!

Side folders??? Side folders look like somebody just broke them over a tree stump and stuffed them down a toilet.

I shot my milled Bulgarian back to back with a century Yugo UF last week and the results were obvious.  The fixed stock for shooting by a long shot.  UF for cool, but only by a little.

UF's suck for shooting

Fixed or side for shooting. But taping a dish rag around the under's bars makes it ok at the range (pic depicts teeth rattling)

I am a fixed stock man myself but could go for a krink stock or polymer folder if I had more green laying around.

get a fixed stock, and if you want it to look cool/be more compact get a romy side folder and switch them out. I have both for my romy G build and I am extremely happy with it. Takes me under 5 min to switch stocks.

As a owner of both, I think you would be better served with a fixed for starters.
The Underfolders seem to have an aquired taste, a few that I know do not like the underfolders

But if you really want to make a liberal wet their pants, get the underfolder

I was thinking about either a Vector Milled for the fixed stock or a Lancaster Polish underfolder, if that makes any difference.

Is the Underfolder really that hard to shoot?  Seems to be alot of them out in the world if they are really that uncomfortable or inaccurate.  I also saw a thread where a guy put paracord on the leftside of the stock to make it more comfortable.

I like both, I'm just having a hard time deciding which to get.

The polish UF would be cool, and Lancaster is getting a good name.

That said, the milled fixed stock rifle would be is my choice every day for a shooter.

The UF isn't really hard to shoot, it's just not as comfortable, accurate or controllable in my hands.  You could wrap stuff around the arm of the stock to help with cheek weld, but too much and it won't fold.

I'd get the full stock for range/target/3-gun/fun gun.  UF for trunk/boat gun where compact stowage is desired over ergonomics.

Just got my first AK, a Vector UF.  Shot it today, put 60 rounds through it.  My thoughts are:1st the UF is not uncomfortable to shoot, the bar did not hurt my face but it I could tell that a conventional stock would feel better.  2nd I had it unfolded( extended) the entire time, if you fold it you have to unfold it to shoot(obviously)  So... Get the UF if that is what you always wanted ( it is the coolest rifle ever)but I found there was no particular advantage, even when carrying it.

Seems like maybe the best compromise would be the full contour side folder I just read about in Shotgun News. I don't know if it available for sale yet.

I like a folder for storage or because it's compact, hell I got a folder on my 10/22. The caliber isn't very big on these so I don't mind shooting them with a folder, either under or side, now if it was a larger caliber then I'd get a fixed for sure.

Just get what you like, if you can afford both, get both.
