Well I picked up the ole Draco this morning from the post office after 5.5 months at JBI Armory.
The work done by them is outstanding. All I had done was to remove the rear trunion, weld over the holes, and install a fixed trunion. Lesson learned here - AK smith lead time isn't real, I was quoted 8-12 weeks on my invoice and it took much longer. Per the other thread this appears to be the norm with AK smith work. I would of preferred to have been told 4-5 months and made a choice to proceed or not (would have done so). Got home this morning, cleaned her up, degreased, heated up the parts, and refinished it with my go to AK finish - Dupli color engine enamel. Heated it up again to speed up curing - I'll get final cure after a couple of days but it can be handled at this point. It makes for a nice little package and is incredibly handy. Need to decide what kind of wood I want to get for this - either Russian laminate or a Romanian G "dong" set. I will pick up an aimpoint micro for it and RS mount and call it a day. i think it needs the brown/tan camo thing, with the romy foregrip.
because be serious... its going to happen eventually. |

That is hot-buttered sex right there - well-done sir, glad it finally came home.
Russian laminate would look great but even some unfinished Romy WASR laminate would look pretty good. |

Needs a Magpul side folder. I did consider the Zhukov for a while - then got to play with one. If I decide I want to add a folding option it would be top of the list, but a Vltor tube and a CTR would be the more "radical" approach I would take if any - over a folder. Is there a good source outside of the EE and similar to find Romanian or Russian wood? I see apex had Dong sets but they are long gone. |
|
Looks great, I'm glad your happy with the work.
With the fixed stock trunnion you have so many options. |
|
Looks great.
I have a Draco that I just filed the form 1 on. Mine will get the fixed stock trunnion work, then a Zhukov folder and an SLR forearm. I am looking at a long wait, and it is killing me. |
|
Nice. I think that is a big improvement. I really never cared for how the bolt on stocks end up looking. The huge hinges and on some guns the angle of the stock just looks off.
|
|
I want to put a fixed stock trunnion on my Draco so I can use the Zhukov stock. Love that thing on my SGL21.

Damn... that looks really nice. I'm hoping that they are delivering on sunday (bc i see that mine is in columbia now) but if not monday.

*Drool*
I just did paperwork for my 107-UR this evening. In WA I am verboten to do form 1's, so I must pay extra for a "service" to get my SBR's completed I have to pay an extra 125.00 on top of the tax. I would like to do my Draco, but I'm not sure she will make it Cans are the priority at the moment. |
|
If I were going to SBR one this is how it would look. A romanian push button folder would be a nice addition too.
|
|
Another beautiful build Fin. You keep raising the bar for me!
|
|
If you are thinking about putting the crutch on it, I would get the "dong" haha... otherwise I'd go with the russian laminate bc its just better looking furniture.

That may be the perfect AK right there. |

Romy button side folder and a dong.
Had an extra one, just sold it a couple months ago. Sorry. |

Got mine back earlier today. The UF is polish and the handguard is russian laminate. SLR brake works really well but my tinnitus is bad enough already so i'm going to stick a standard slant brake back on it. http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k558/thornejc23/IMG_1674_zps2pnsxudz.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k558/thornejc23/IMG_1738_zpsrpzrro7p.jpg http://i1115.photobucket.com/albums/k558/thornejc23/IMG_1717_zpsxf0orafm.jpg View Quote I approve. |

Ill donate my Romanian dong forearm that I trimmed down.
That looks awesome btw |
|
I'm thinking a laminate wasr take off stock set with my brown shellac would look dirty on it.
Russian would look nice and clean - but I'm wanting something more subdued for this |
|
Looking for a matching laminate wasr take off set.
I've still got the blonde Draco ones somewhere |
|
Damn, I missed this thread. I have a Romy dong I'll send you if you're still looking for one. Just shoot me a shipping addy.

Ran 400 rounds through it this morning in the cold.
It's awesome. If the manticore stock'd version was 8/10 awesome this is easily 9.5/10 awesome. Going to get a RS mount and toss my spare Aimpoint pro on it. |
